Hi
I was looking to fit a new exhaust to my car after getting quoted ridiculous prices to have it fitted. I have been quoted a touch over $300 for a lukey system, cat back There are systems on ebay for 260 + 20 freight or I have been quoted $350 plus freight for a redback system. (about 20 bucks) Are the redbacks that much better? i'm leaning towards the lukey simply because of the price, and that i can pick it up from my local repco. Thoughts? |

there isnt much different..
my dad has the same car as me...ef fairmont...mine has a redback system with pacemakers and his a lukey with the same pacemakers...sounds the same except mine goes better but that comes down the the dif ratio as i have 3.45 diff gears and he has 3.23... there nothin much different...one is black..one is silver....

How is it in the cabin when cruising? does it drone?
What i'm after is something that is relatively quiet when driving sedately, but then has a good growl when you give it a bootfull! I'm leaning towards the lukey purely because it;s the one I have been most easily been able to find! |

dad has a rear muffler i have a hotdog... both sound the same in car and out... theres not that much difference.. we just drove 800 off kms in dads car towing a boat and we spent a bit of time in 3rd as it's an auto (so is mine) and it was a little loud...but no where near as loud as an exhaust without the rear muffler or hotdog..as a mate of mine had an el fairy with the same system and it was too loud and droney on a freeway... somethin in the tailpipe quietens it down enuff to make it enjoyable to hear

i'm trying to avoid loud in the cabin if i can, but outside the car dont care!
Also looking at an ebay system, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=017 at about 280 delivered seems like a bargain. What do people think? |

lukey is better than redback! i'd happily pay extra to get lukey over redback personally. tghe fact that you can get it cheaper is a bonus!

Both main mufflers on each system have a very large offset between entry and exit. The redback muffler on my old exhaust was not straight through like everyone one says. It was a triflow arrangement. I pretty certain that the Lukey muffler you get is straight through except it has a big offset between entry and exit.
You can get the mandrel bent pipe work and fit a universal( lukey etc) proper straight through muffler (small offset or centre to centre). If your chasing every last kw then muffler choice is critical.

Chasing more power isnt necessarily my goal here. My existing exhaust is falling apart, literally. I need to replace it, and I figured I may as well fit something better givn a standard system was quoted at the same as a better one!

If your chasing every last kw then muffler choice is critical. Your right, best muffler for the job then is a Lukey Race Muffler, center to center straight through. Very sturdy build quality and stainless. Triflow mufflers or turbo mufflers as Lukey calls them are s**t - better than stock, but your wasting your time with them as oposed to the straight throughs. |
