Best torque always depends on what you've done to your car.

A good flowing exhaust will help.
Camming your car will move the torque "curve" towards the right.

Is this a stock car? if so, max torque is about the 3500 range me thinks.

in that case, you'd wanna be shifting at max torque for best runs, so around the 3500-4000 range.
Without a good flowing zorst, your engine can't breathe well.

Max torque would be there, my cars power is still climbing at the 180km speed limit in 4th gear, which equates to about 4200rpm (or was it 4800rpm). This is on my dyno print out.

Max torque on a stock falcon usually comes in about 3000 RPM, max power on a stockie is about 4500-5000 RPM. I'd let the transmission hold the gears all the way until you really felt a loss in power, don't upshift at 3500 RPM...

As for holding at the rev limiter? You'd be using a fair amount of fuel for starters

put it in N or P and leave a brick on the accel and tell us all what happens.

yeha i had my timming chain go luckily i was stopped on the side of the road (was looking for the sim card for my phone) and i took my foot f the brake then bang the engine stopped. bent valves and broke a rocker arm and they arent cheap. the other lucky part was i just finished traveling from interstate the day before

The engine will be designed to run at the rev limiter without suddenly blowing up. However it was only designed to do that occasionally. So When you run it there all the time you are eating up the built in reliability.

Basically different engines are designed for different purposes.

A long stroke 4 litre engine like the falcons is designed for effortless cruising on the open road and hauling 5 ppl + luggage and a boat around. Low revs and high torque.

Where an engine say the RB-26DETT from the skyline GTR is a racing engine. It will have the nessicary cooling, strength of metals and oil systems to last for hours of high RPM operation. Which is why they last so bloody long when put into road going skylines.

But I think you are also confused about why engines need to rev.

Basically power is a fictional concept. Torque is what makes your car move. Torque is the rotational turning force of the engine. Your engine has a torque curve usually starts low, builds to a peak (say 3000 rpm) and then dropps off as engine speeds increase.
Now torque at the engine multiplied through the gearbox and diff = torque at the wheels.

Why you want lots of revs is that you can be in a lower gear for a given road speed thus get greater torque at the wheels. So an 8000 RPM skyline can have a lower ratio 1st gear than say our humble falcon becasue the engine can rev more. Thus giving more torque at the wheels.
Racing engines have their torque peak up high to maximise this effect at high RPM. Falcons have their torque peak low to help reliablity and ease driving.

Eventually though the torque is falling off as RPM rises untill you will get more torque at the wheels by being in the next gear than you will by staying in the current gear. Some engines this happens after the red line So you are only limited by the maximum speed of the engine - pushing it into the red zone!

Exhausts and cams and engine management tend to move our torque peaks higher making them more like a racing engine but we still don't have the reliablity (unless you rebuild with better components).
