How do you remove the belt on an EF Falcon? The only pulley I can find that is not part of another mechanical piece has no bolt on it!? It has 2 10mm(?) bolts either side.............................. any help would be great.....

IIRC, the pulley closest to the thermostat has a 3/8 drive hole in it, whack a ratchet in there and turn it, it loosens the pulley and you can slip the belt off.

I will go have another look but couldnt see it before... will take a photo if something looks sus.
BTW, WTF does IIRC mean? everytime I see it I think of "as far as I can recall" it's pissing me off more than the belt |

Its easiest to remove the thermo fans first by removing the intake and belt cover (1x 10mm nut and power steer cap) then the fans (2x 10mm bolts top left and right) along with the fan plug. Then with a 12-13mm nut handy pull up on the top of the belt to open up the gap as shown in below image. Insert nut into the gap and release the belt. There should be enough slack to then remove it fully. When done refit belt and pull up on belt so nut can be removed. Oh yeah remove the throttle cable by twisting the cable around through slot!!

The belt tensioner is the key here, you can use a socket wrench(with no socket) or i found the easiest way is to pull the belt by hand ,between tensioner and air con compresor, you will see the tensioner move when you pull on it. BUT HERE'S THE TRICK you must stop the tensioner returning to normal position, use a drill bit or small diameter rod ,only 3" or 4" long because there's not much room in there. As you pull tensioner up use the drill bit etc to jam the tensioner in the up position, the bit goes in the left side bottom of main tensioner assembly, there's a point, the bit goes under it .
You need the tensioner up so you can get belt back on,the belt slips off the tensioner ,and it's easy from there. sorry description is a bit vage ,doing this from memory a few months ago. Hope this helps!!! ....Trev |
