You need a long allen key to remove the top half, it is worth it, but it is a lot of work, be ready for a number of days work and lots of wet & dry paper.

I was always led to believe?? that they rough up the insides of the intake manifold to create better air turbulence for fuel/air combustion in the head????

I think it is wise to replaced the gasket between the top and bottom manifold halves once you remove the top from the bottom. I don't think it will seal properly once it has been removed and you will get leaks. But you can try without replacement...I didn't replace mine and I think it has a tiny leak...

I believe he is talking about polishing the outside of the BBM as to get more engine bay bling

It's pretty simple to remove, just a whole heap of hex bolts you need to remove, a few hoses you need disconnect etc and it will come off.

Takes a lot of grinding and sanding before you get anywhere near the polishing step. Definitely worth it in the end if you take your time and get a good finish. Might pay to get a spare BBM to polish up and when the time comes to put it on, you can just swap them over.

And yes, it does pay to change the gasket while it's off to ensure a better seal between the surfaces. On the numerous occasions mine has been off i haven't yet changed from the original steel gasket Ford use so it's due for a swap next time it comes off

Not for the BBM upper gasket. The gasket in the VRS is for the manifold to head gasket.

That's strange. Typically a VRS kit is a full top end kit. I know the "Permaseal" VRS kits include them. I've still got the BBM upper gasket from the Permaseal kit sitting here in fact ..

There is no need to take the BBM apart when doing a VRS service, so hence, no gasket.
