fan belt removal
remove thermos stick a 3/8 rachet into the bottom of the idler arm and turn in a clockwise direction this will release the tension remove belt from water pump pulley with other hand while holding rachet. or remove thermos place a cable, insulated wire, onto belt next to water pump pulley, passenger side, pull up and off the pulley.

there is a hole where you can insert a drill bit or some sort of pin on the tensioner when you have rotated it to release tension. just makes it a bit easier, not that its hard. i have never done it but i just know from reading my gregory's there is a hole there somewhere to hold it in the released position

Yeah same as wha MSMAN said.Remove intake scoop 2 philips head screw's.Disconnect/Remove thermo fans 2 10mm bolts/2or1 plugs. Then if your strong enough you can actually remove the belt by grabbing it at or near the top idler and heaving upwards and you can take the belt off that way or do what msman said and you a 3/8 breaker bar or adaptor on a 1/2inch breaker bar to swing the tensioner clockwise to remove tension but you can also use on of the 10mm bolts from the raidiator to hold the tensioner from retracting. If you rotate the tensioner clockwise till it stops you will see a little 6mm or 8mm hole in the tensioner place one of the 10mm bolts and makes fitment of the new belt easier.Hope that helps dude.

I never had to remove the thermos when i removed the tensioner arm off the EL to replace the pulleys.
I just used the 3/8 ratchet and pushed clockwise until belt was loose, then i stuck an allen key into the slot which holds the arm at the loose position. removed the belt. Then i used 1/4in sct set with an ext bar and removed the 3 bolts from the tensioner. Pulled it out and put the new pulley's on. Whacked it back in, tightened up the 3 bolts, put the belt back on, put tension back on the tensioner arm with the 3/8 ratchet, removed the allen key and slowly put the pressure back on the belt. easy.................. |
