about 2 years ago i had a minor fire underneath my bonnet, causing fire damage to the heatproofing under bonnet.
Also an engine issue (hole in timing cover) causing oil to be sprayed everywhere in engine bay, causing the heatproofing to be quite oil soaked. It is also kind of torn. my question is, does a straight 6 (ED motor) produce enough heat to cause the paint to peel and bubble on the bonnet (top side and engine bay side) if there isnt heatproofing? there's a pic of the heatproofing damage (barely in the pic though) in one of the engine bay pics in my gallery |

My XH came from the factory without the underbonnet heatproofing. After 10 years, there's no sign of any heat damage to the underbonnet (it hasn't been resprayed, etc).

my cars been goin for eons before i bought it without any bonnet lining due to the cosworth vents.
i've done 20,000k's & the only blemishes on my bonnet are from violently snapped engine mounts.

EF & EL XR6's didn't have the bonnet heat sheilds, but the XR8's did.
It was one way or the other, its been awhile since i looked at them when they were new.

I believe it is sound deadning not heatproofing, you want the heat out not keep it in.

Yeah, both, i'd settle for both. The AU I had none, but the AU II had it, as well as a sandwich type firewall too, like steel-polyurethane-steel. So if you cut one with an oxy or plasma cutter, watch it spit and carry on.

& suck in that agent orange...
polyurethane is produced using iso-cyinate, when burnt gives you agent orange. the stuff they used for chemical warfare in vietnam. good stuff.
