I dropped my car(1997 EL GLi sedan) into the mechanic for a service recently and was told there were several problems that should be fixed.
1) brake fluid flushing [i.e.bleed brakes](easy enough for me to do) 2) replace front pads(easy enough as well) 3) RH steering rack end has play and 4) Central muffler needs replacement Now with the exhaust (referring to the Gregory's manual No.270, p.69 ) i can see the Catalytic converter, the resonator and Central muffler, however no other muffler after this. Is this normal? Being a newbie to the exhaust side of things.... Would it be worth replacing the whole system, i.e. get new headers(i.e. pacemakers or something like that), change the cat and put in new resonators, mufflers etc.? I would like the car to be good fuel economy wise and also quiet as well. Being an I6 I know that there are limitations to what can be done etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

yeah you could that as it would save you money in the long run rather than repaceing bits at time.

replace the lot.. if you drive without putting the boot in all the time, a free flowing 2.5 inch exhaust/cat/extractors will save you $$$ in fuel.. if you put the boot in all the time, you'll use more than now.

Hi brax ,I just fitted pacie 4480`s and redback 2.5" exhaust to my eb 4.0L[170,000k`s] Was very impressed with added performance right across the range.Previous mod was Tickford [xr6] head which did basically nothing.Today drove from sunshine to lilydale and back[near enough to 4 hours total] 10.2 litres per 100k. Not bad in my book with five people on board in traffic. Must admit that the exhaust might have woken the head up a bit as far as flow etc goes.
