i blew a hole in my thermostat housing on a ef. i'm having a lot of trouble removing one of the pipes from the lower thermostat housing - if thats what its even called. its seems to move under the intake manifold from the housing. i have no idea how to remove the pipe. can anyone help? sorry for the vague description.

There is a bolt just under the pipe and C fitting that holds it to the thermostat housing and another bracket/bolt on the front on the intake manifold. Once removed it should pull out (with a little force).

I tried putting in a lot of force earlier, but the pipe isn't secure and I didn't want to do anything _too_ stupid and break it. I'll give it another shot. Cheers

I think when my motor was done we had a problem with one of the heater pipes not releasing.. I think we undid the thermostat housing and then undid the C clamp and then tried rotating the thermostat housing on the pipe to try and break a seal of sorts (not really a seal just kinda fused together?).. suprisingly it just eventually gave way and came off easily.. odd!

it can be b**ch.
i had to whack the housing several times with a small hammer to break the seal as turning did nothing but start to bend the pipe.

had that same problem. Didn't want to ruin the pipe and I figured that grabbing a hammer wouldn't be a good idea, it'd just bend it more. after reading your post ... that idea was well thought out

Sometimes its just easier to buy a new pipe as well.

you should be able to wedge a crowbar between the pipe and the manifold and lever it out. thats what i did last time i changed mine.
make sure you keep wiggling the pipe around and it should come out when putting it back in just insert the pipe and then use the little nut to pull the pipe in by tightening the nut.
