hey all
my sump gasket is a-leaking which isn't cool, as it means the parentals won't let me park on the driveway - so it needs to be fixed! can people please let me know what the difficulty is in regards to changing the gasket over - is it able to be done @ home, or what should a mechanic be charging for such a job? whats involved? cheers

2 options.
lift the engine drop the kframe. either way you need to lift the engine. i dropped the kframe on my car to do it and i'd rather do that then pull the engine.

Mine was leaking when I got the car, I just went and tightened the bolts a bit (some of them were bloody loose) and now it doesn't leak. Saves removing ya engine!

yeah do that first man.. if it doesn't fix it you'll have to change the gaskets. droping the subframe is the way i would do it. you could do it at home with a little from mates.. just need some thing to hold the engine up while the subframe is out |

changed mine 2 days ago
engine was out of the car though, even so, took a good few hours to get it out, clean it up and put it back in! dont even bother trying to change it while its in the car, just try and tighten them up, thats your best bet! |

I know to replace the actual sump the K frame needs to be dropped or the engine lifted, but if it's just the gasket, couldn't you just lift the engine a bit and undo the sump so it hangs down?
