i wouldnt want to be changing it anyway, you start throwin rods and s**t if you rev them out too hard and its not uncommom to do it either, i seen a few ppl on here saying they done it

im with ^^^
dont change the limiter unless the engine can take it it is there for a reason! most aftermarket ecu's can do this

its also pointless changing the limiter unless u hav a different cam cos the engine wont make any power after the limit.

lol a stocko falc stops making power after about 4000 rpm. I know the au comes on at about 2400 and feels athsmatic above 4 grand, even with the intake upgrade (could be coz the factory headers belong on a tractor.).
its an economy setup and thats that. without bottom end rebuild and good headwork/cam, the i6 is not a revver anyway.

dude the cam in my car pulls all the way 2 the limiter and it's good to know it's there so i will last abit longer and is it really worth the x tra 5rwkw

maybe its not a stock cam and/or ehaust manifold and system... on my old eb the genies and 2.5 made it pull way better, though some extra lift in the cam woulda been nice after the 4500 mark. rwkw is a peak figure Im sure its the better curve that makes it worth while.

well i sure had no problems with my i6 reving in first gear it pulled like a freight train and hit 6000 before the limiter would kick in. it had a 3500-6500 cam though and the head work to suit etc i think a healthy AU motor onwards can safely do 6000 easy it sounded nice anyway :p

I had my EL spinning to 6250 for over a year, but had a big cam that needed the extra revs. It can be done on a stock ECU with a J5 chip. Otherwise after market ECU is the go.

Mine was stock bottom end. Only problem was destroyed tail shaft and gearbox (that wasn't due to the raised rev limiter - raised speed limiter did that). And anyone that knows me knows I don't drive sedately.

I'm assuming an EL engine too? Question that could be asked considering what this thread is about and that I have been trying to find a decent answer to for a while: with the bottom end of the i6 what is the weakest link when building an NA engine to rev, components of the rotating mass or issues with cylinder wall pressure?

Mine was an EL Hybrid (so it had the better AU head/rocker gear).
Fact is they are a long stroke engine, they're not made to rev hard (I was only going about 500rpm over the stock limiter, not much in the scheme of things). That and the rather heavy/slow rocker gear the E series had doesn't bode well for a revver. The AU head/rocker gear were lighter and to different proportions made them happier at higher revs. Personally, IMO the best way to make more power out of these sixes is to force some air in 'em. Searching for more power with revs is going to be a very expensive and ultimately fruitless proposition.
