Hi im hoping someone can help me here, ive done a search but none of the topics were finished... (never said what prob was). anyhow the cars a 4speed auto 3.9L. it doesnt seem to want to go over 3500rpm when it hits around there it acts like its at top revs shatters ect. i change gear manually when passing as it doesnt kick down properly. i've had it a few months it was real sluggish when i got it has it was sitting around. so i changed oil, plugs, leads, and filters. running alot better but still wont rev out like it should so am a lose of power. my old ea would do 180 easy as( i backed off after that) ive only got up to 160 in this took a bit too, tho was up hill.

has anyone had this prob before? dont really wanna go buy a fuel pump or something and find out it was waste of money

Check your air intake system. Air filter might be stuffed, get it cleaned or get a new one.

As 66 coupe said, accelerator cable...make sure it isn't stretched or caught on something.

Check for vacuum leaks.

That's all I can think of besides fuel system and MAP sensor, but those would usually cause the car to have a rough idle and also misfire/surge/jitter when driving under load. While you're at it, replace the fuel filter if the car has been sitting for a while. Might be clogged.

Hope that helps.

cable seems ok, air filter looks ok but maybe pretty old could a clogged filter cause it to act like its on rev limiter? fuel filter done. i'll check for leaks in the weekend and get back to ya.
the Exhaust note sounds a lil lumpy but has factory cam, that normal?

im gonna replace engine anyhow not sure what with yet?
but it be nice for this to run better for now

clogged air filter can cause power loss...how much I am unsure of. You're basically choking the engine, so it won't perform very well. I'm sure that's a general rule for anything that needs to breath.

I'd go with the fuel pump. My dad had an ea that was a bit sluggish and wouldnt rev very high, the new fuel pump fixed that up. You could try doing a test of the fuel line to see how much fuel its deliverying and then try the fuel pump if it's low.
