my a/c compressor pulley keeps fraying belts because its not inline properly.Apparently you cant just replace the pulley itself , so the whole compressor needs replacing. $400-500 bucks .Fu@k that. i bearly ever use it anyway.

so how do i go about bypassing the a/c compressor so it stops fraying belts?

can the a/c compressor be ripped out and just have a different sized belt put on?

i dont know much about this sort of thing , so any help would be appreciated :)

You could leave the air compresser on there, and presuming the orientation of the pulleys, you may be able to buy a shorter belt. But often there will things in the way like hoses or other pulleys and so it wont even work. I would of thought the pulley was replaceable?

I think you have to be carefull cause when you pull out the hoses, it can splurt out refridgerant and give you frostbite.

id try get a ac out of the quokka a f**k one and dismantle it to take the clutch mechanism/pully off the front and if u can do it then you take the car to any place that can reclaim gas as its illegal to dump it to atmosphere aswell as its carsnigenic then pull ur compressor off dont tip it up as its full of oil and pull that front assemble off and replace it with the f**k compressors one hoping that compressor wasnt faulty because of the clutch but even if it is then atlest your not stripping belts :)

according to ford repair manual you can remove the pulley.
-remove clutch armature bolt (8mm), lift it off
-remove shim (washer)
-remove snap ring
-use puller E9300-1 to remove pulley
-remove clutch coil by hand, disconnect the plug first
-now you can remove the shaft bearing using tool E9300-2A

you should be able to use generic pullers to do the job.

Dont even think about using generic pullers as they usually stuff the pulley AND the thread on the compressor

You should be able to just piss the compressor off and still use the serpentine belt. XH's when they were delivered to the dealerships didn't have AC fitted. So in place of the compressor was a bracket with a pulley on it. If you can find one of these brackets you will be able to remove the compressor and not use it.

Personnally I'd fix the compressor. AC is a wonderful thing even in sunny melbourne.

I'm pretty sure you can swap pulleys on ef/el compressors.
we have a ceased one laying around somewhere, but i haven't had a good look at it to see if it comes off.

thanks for all the reply guys.

looks like i'll get the guys at the workshop to have a go at replacing the pulley.

If generic pulleys are out of the question , is getting a second hand pulley from the wreakers my best option?

any idea how much it would cost?

If anyones got any more info , it would be appreciated :)
