I started the engine on my ED and it made a struggling noise while idling for around 4 seconds which was extremely weird.
I turned it off, and looked at the rocker cover and found it had cracked all around the first bolt. I'm guessing I need a new rocker cover now??? Also is that the reason it made that struggling noise??? The gregry's guide said to tighten the 4 bolts at 6nm and that's what I did. |

what did u do when u had it off? i think something may have happened internally to cause it to break. did u change cams or something?

You tightened it too much, the rocker covers are weak as.
Never torque them lol I dont know what a 'struggling' noise is, but I cant see a cracked rocker cover causing it.

Hmmm.
How much does a replacement cost? How tight should I have had it? I was just putting gasket glue on when I had it off. The struggling noise was weird, it ran rough. |

to be fair tho he did say he torqued it to 6nm as the book says, which is 2/10 of stuff all anyway.

What is the correct torque setting? Tight enough to hold it down, not tight enough to snap the rocker cover. Just grab one from a wrecker. I got a little crack in mine, I just left it. But if you've split it down the middle, grab another one.

odd my cover has been off more than a hookers clothes, its usualy put back on reasonably tight, never had an issue... next time ill put it back a lil looser

EF/EL are a bit stronger, its EA-ED that are pissweak and crack, right down the middle. I dont know what you mean by struggling noise? Like the revs were dropping, it was almost stalling?

probably sucking air in the rocker cover. may have already been cracked and just got worse.

Will an EF/EL rocker cover fit straight on or will I need a new gasket/cylinder head?
Also yeah it sounded like it was almost stalling. I was afraid that shrapnel from the crack had landed into the engine. |

thats still a possibility
best to pull the rocker cover off and have a squiz at whats gone on |
