hey just bout to replace the my leaking rocker cover gasket on a ef 6 do i need to buy that black sealant as well??

If its a rubber gasket then no !

Don't forget to replace the rubber gromets under the bolts' heads, as this is what keeps tension on the gasket, not how tight the bolts are........you'll see a "crush tube" as well, this prevents the bolt from overtightening.

um cjh he is talking about his rocker cover and not the head gasket. He doesn't need to touch the head bolts. Are you talking about the rocker cover bolts?

yes i got quite confused aswell but bottom line is still no sealant needed !

The rocker cover can sometimes be a bit tricky to manouver and get it sitting properly at the back. Be sure that the gasket is sitting properly otherwise you will end up with a slight oil seepage down the back of the head.

The bolts that hold the rocker cover in place have rubber gromets/seals on them between the thread and the "head" of the bolt. They are replaceable and help in holding the rocker cover down onto the head without crushing the rocker cover gasket underneath. I suggest replacing them as well if they are well worn/torn.

I wasn't talkin about the head bolts.....rocker cover bolts......they have rubber gromets under them, that is what holds the rocker cover down. Now do you get it????????????

interesting, so can you just get them through ford etc.? if so what sort of money are you talking.
Also on the suject of rocker covers, does anybody know a cheaper alternative for the gromet around the pcv valve, i was told it was like $4 but when i went to ford, they told me it was like 30 something, f**k my head in?
