I own an ef with 100,000 genuine ks on the clock with one owner, now onto the problem. The car was idling really bad one day so I decided to check the spark plug leads, they disintegrated.... so off I went and got oil filter, oil, air filter, ngk plugs, decent leads etc and serviced her.

But it is still running rough, It would sit at 800rpm idle and shake the car when i put the foot down it would sputter before revving. The exhaust end sounds like it is misfiring during idle but when on the highway it all clears up apart from a flatspot in the rev range.
I've checked the map, all that did was make my car now idle at 1000rpm. Any suggestions are welcome as it is driving me crazy. It also has the very popular smartlock problem, nothing a good bash doesn't fix though.

cheers,
dave

I'm an IT nerd so unsure where to check for vacuum leaks, I'll flush the injectors this week and see how it goes :).

ok, i've checked that vacuum line it's firmly attached. I tightened the intake manifold bolts up and the exhaust thumping has stopped, it's a uniform purr now (thanks for that sv-valiant,fiftyone and kelv_05ef_wagon). It's still very slow to respond so I'll get the injectors flushed this week and hopefully it solves everything. thanks guys.
