Strangly enough, it seemed to come good once the revs increased. Simplest procedure to test your leads and coil pack is: 1. pull of one lead off a spark plug, 2. connect this lead to a spare spark plug with the gap set to 6mm, 3. earth this plug, 4. Start you engine and check for a strong healthy spark, 5. switch off you engine, go to the next lead and start your engine, 6. do each other lead in turn. If the above test doesn't show any problems, you can try removing one lead at a time from each spark plug with engine running. If RPM doesn't drop, then that plug is stuffed. Note that this may cause high induced voltage spikes in your electrics and i think ford does not recomend this (others on the forum can make comment if this test is considered unsafe for the car). Oh, and if you don't use insulated lead pullers, you may get a big zap Cheers. i mite give this a go actually cause as i said the car is still pullin as hard as ever, but just on idle it feels as if a cylinder is droppin out! cheers bud

If its a vacuum leak your car will be as lumpy as a 351 - sounds sorta ok, but not good! lol. Also i have noticed when I unpluged a vacuum plug the exhaust throws out a darker tinge smoke - does this happen to you at all?

Mine sounds like a V8 but it is more like a piss weak 253 than a lumpy 351. And yes my new stainless exhaust tip is covered in a dark coloured exhaust dirt.
I am going to try cleaning the ISC first but the vacuum leak was my guess. |

Hey DALMO_501 .......
You suggested cleaning the TPS. Care to explain how you do this, cos I thought they were a sealed unit? |

ok i finally got time to get off my a*** and have a good look today and find out that i have a vacuum leak! and its a bastard of a one too, the intake manifold gasket has split! on the no. 6 cylinder! so now im guna have to replace that
wat is the best gasket to get? are there any differences between models from ef-au? like is there an intake manifold gasket like the au head gasket cause i dont wana have to change it again! and anyone got an idea on price of the gaskets?

I had the same problem myself - gasket busted near 6cyl. Only problem was when i changed it ran better but did not fix the problem. I just bought the standard gasket from Repco -dont know what brand it was.
It is a bit of a b**ch to get to the bolts holding the manifold on towards the back of the engine. Simple job but time consuming due to the location of some of the bolts. |

yea well im guna leave it til one arvo then get into it
guna completely pull aprt the intake manifold and replace all gaskets on that side also guna get injectors cleaned too while its all out!

How exactly did you diagnose it as a vacuum leak? I also suffer the poor idle and that is one aspect i havent checked yet.
