Hey guys.
Needing an oil change soon so i thought i'd make the jump to royal purple to give it a go. Just need to know which thickness i should get. I think they only have a 10W/40 or a 15W/50 (correct me if i am wrong?) Car has done 220k km Also, has anyone got any feedback about these oils? Cheers Sam

i just changed to royal purple and love it. it has given me 0.5-0.8L/100kmm better fuel economy
i put 5w/30 in my BA xr6 yeah it only comes in a few grades Multi-Grade Oils: 5W30, 10W40, 20W50 Straight-Grade Oils: SAE 50 i think (maybe wrong its been awhile with ELs) but the book says -w/40 grade, i would probly stick with what the book says dont worry about W (winter grade) as long as it isnt over 20w any info; read this http://www.royalpurple.com.au/article_i ... lement.php it was a test done by commonwhore street machine mag, interesting read |

yer that stuff is far too overpriced to be worth it i've heard and think myself.. it would want to last 20,000km's for that. I use the vulvaline durablend in the ba and penrite in the au and both are usually under $40. changed at 5000k so thats expensive enough. I won't be buying a new car any time soon..

i will be extending my service time to 15,000km but i will change the filter every 7500km
i was changing my oil and filter every 10,000km it it has made a big difference to the way my ute runs, smoother running and quieter , better fuel economy (about 0.5-0.8L/100km better) Quote from their web site "Royal Purple recommends following the manufacturer’s maintenance intervals while the vehicle is under factory warranty. In clean engines that are no longer under warranty, oil change intervals may be extended up to every 20,000 kms or annually, whichever comes first. Oil filter changes should be done as recommended by the filter’s manufacturer and oil should be topped off as needed. In dirty engines, Royal Purple recommends the standard 5,000 to 10,000 km oil and filter change interval until the engine oiling system is clean and free of deposits left by lower quality oils and / or poor maintenance or mechanical problems. This will allow time to gradually remove existing deposits without overloading the oiling system. Mechanical problems such as fuel dilution, coolant leaks into the crankcase, poor air filtration and / or failure to maintain proper oil level are all detrimental factors to the service life of any engine oil. Any one of these factors can significantly shorten the useful service life of any oil." its up to you what you want to put in it, this article help me make up my mind (its an oil comparison test) http://www.royalpurple.com.au/article_i ... lement.php the valveoline full synthetic is a good cheap oil as in article above its up to you |

so how much oil do you think it ill take to top up after you take the filter off and change it ?
my bf gets just on 700kms a tank and my xr ute gets a bit over 650 with a 80 litre tank. not as good and not as fast but not as new or well looked after either.

I used gulf western once. It was absolute crap. Needed a change after 2000ks. Noisy as engine. Lost all its protective qualities.
