My ED XR6 is running like s**t, its as if it is starving of fuel. I did a manual converstion on the weekend and swapped everything over from a manual ED XR6 but it was doing it before the converstion anyway.
Here is the thing, i have swapped the fuel pumps over, still not fixed, i have swapped the fuel regulator over and still not foxed the problem. I am stuffed as to what it might be.... both fuel pump and regulator that i put in are fine, they where working in the other car.

The problem it when i drive in a stright line it is fine but when it gets up into the revs 3,500+ its starts spluttering bad.First gear isnt as bad cos it revs quicker but once you get into second its worse and third is terrable.
Also if i go around a corner at any speed more noticeable at lower speeds it splutters really BAD and sometimes pretty much dies or does die if i dont play around with the throttle.

Please help

Griffo

I think your fuel filter is to blame. When I just bought my EL the fuel filter was blocked...I couldn't even blow through it when I took it off...and when I was driving sensibly the car would be fine, but when I revved it she sputtered and hesitated.

So change the fuel filter and see how you go. If not your injectors might need a clean.

The fuel fuilter is only about 15000 km old at the max but I checked it and its perfectly fine. The dizzy coil leads and plugs are also 15000 km max old. I will check the MAP and ECT sensors tomorrow.

Anyone else got anyother suggestions???

Have you cleaned your ISC valve, and throttle body????
Also check the MAP sensor hose at the manifold, they split down there.
How many K's on your rocket.????
If around 300,000 K's, the dizzy's get a bit worn, slop in the bush for the shaft, and the reluctor starts to hit the haul effect sensor.

Maybe you could try the injectors from the other XR6, just to rule out these ones as an issue

Mine does the exact same thing. Ie the spluttering and high idle reving. And the way you say you have to vairy the throttle to accleerate.

Have changed Map sensor, oyxeygen sensor, fuel filter, plugs, and recently(1 year ago) had injectors cleaned and new leads. So what is left?
What is the ECT sensor?

I also tryed to remove the idle speed control control, no difference.

So what is left, recently I had the dissy replaced but it was put on 1 tooth out and was heavilly retarted, The car ran crap like it does now, but not as bad. My mechanic put the dissy on right gave heaps of advance, it wored fine for 6 months.

Now hear I am.

I just took my car to a place to give it a dyno tune and play with the fuel mixtures, I have a Uni Chip.
If this dont work, I am completly out of idears.

A high RPM after a backfire is a symptom of a vacuum leak from a hose being blown off. Check the map sensor vacuum line - its usually the first to pop off if thats the case. Have a feel around the hoses under the plenum for cracks that may not be visible.

Grab a timing light to see if your dizzy has possibly come loose.

In my LTD the middle vacume hose on the "tree" at the rear of the manifold always pops out, this little black hose supplys vacume to the ventallation system so i always know when it comes out. When it is out, it does make a noticable effect of idle quality. Try looking at that :?

Ok the mechniclh says he fixed the problem.

He replaced the ignition module and re-built the dissy. It was damaged internally.

The he said the car ran fine with no missfire.

He tunes the uni chip tommorow.

How much did that cost ya???
I usually fit a brandnew one, works out about the same, done in less time and less hasle, plus you get a new dizzy cap & rotor too.
