i doubt it would be the inlet gasket again..
1. check that you have a done up all the inlet manifold bolts. and all vaccum hoses are connected.
2. to check if it is the inlet gasket get some areo start and spray aroudn the intake gasket and listen for a engine note change it shoudl pick up some revs.
3..like Puca said clean out the ISC located on top of the throttle body.. 2 bolts
and a wiring plug, use carby cleaner in there and let it soak
4. what are your plugs, leads like? are the leads on the correctly

check the basics first before doing major work :)

The idle Solanoid thats where I would start. Take it of and soak it in Cleaner.

can also be dirty injectors (oh no not that old chestnut again), vacuum leaks, worn or dirty plugs, poor ignition leads, low fuel pressure, poor quality fuel to name a few.

good luck.

speaking of idleing problems, my car seems to idle really, rough. everything shakes. I just gave it a major service, using performance spark plugs, performance leads, top of the range filters and good old castrol oil. the idle has improved a Sh## load since, but its not as smooth as what i would like it to be. any suggestions? thanks

Try checking your air temp sensor it's located under the throttle body as I missed it when reconnecting the wiring up after I replaced the head gasket .My EF XR6 was hunting when idling, running rough and Flat spotting when accelerating. Now It is running sweet after connecting it back up.

I'm taking my XR6 to Lynford today to get fixed. I'll post here again with what they did to fix it. It might be the same as your problem.

Cheers

i had the same problem on my EF XR6 manual - in my case the idle was about 800 then just drop and almost stall - but it never did though. real annoying i tell ya......

what i did was take the (TPS unit/base idle off) its stuck with 2 bolts on the side of the trottle body - TPS - Trottle positioning unit.... sprayed it with carby cleaner and let it saturate for about 1 hour. It came up crystal clean and got rid of the all the black gunk inside. slapped it back in and never had that problem since.... (i did this in april 2004).

give this a go coz im pretty sure that part will cost ya about a case of imported beer.

DALMO_501 thats what the problem was with mine. They did a induction clean on the throttle body today and it came up a treat. Must be the K&N filter leaving s**t down the intake. I'm going to switch back to paper filters.

BushyXR6 give the throttle body a good clean like DALMO_501 said and I'll bet 95% chance it was that. Also give the idle control system on top of the throttle body a good clean too.

I'm getting rid of the K&N now. Not putting up with that s**t.

I'm just glad it was nothing serious.
