Hi,
Ihave a concern, In pulling out the camshaft, I noticed some spots which are rusty/pitted a bit, what is the best option for cleaning off this rust, to see how deeop it goes? Im hoping its just surface, but im doubtful. Even wet & dry would be too harsh to ruin the finish i was thinking. Ive never been in this territory before. I usually, bodymod, service, and the occasional intake mod etc. Being my first teardown, I'm being very careful, taking my time, taking pics. What do you think?? thanx guys matt |

Try cleaning it with scotchbrite, soaked in WD40. Keep it wet. Just polish all of the rust off, and keep it well lubricated as you go. Wash it with kero, etc, when finished, then lube it again. Being a roller cam, you can get away with a fair bit, but make it as clean as possible and you should be fine. If it is badly pitted, chuck it and get another cam. Good luck.

Thanx sooty,
all i know of scotchbrite is its some kind of scourer.(am i right?) Is it the same as one of those yellow/green kitchen scrubbers? Obviously cant use steel wool, although there is one that doesnt scratch steel , apparently. matt |
