Some may remember this post a while ago when I had my EA:
schmackos for my ea with this quote: smiley235 wrote: Okay, now after getting my first run on optimax, i got 365km's, over my usual 310 from unleaded. Second run of optimax, I got just over 400km! Then after that tank, i filled her up with ultimate and got just over 400 again which i'm very happy with. This is not exaggerated at all and im sure my testing was more accurate than that ray martin racv test on f**k a current affair. If anyone else has a cpi ea and is running unleaded, try premium fuels, you'll never go back.
Now with my BA, was constantly getting 450-460/tank since I got it for months on end. Then when I got all the mods I have so far, it went down o 420-430/tank (due to my slightly more agressive ride). So anyway, I filled up with optimax extreme (V power racing) and next time I was at the bowser, (after running a tank of VPR) said I had 460 km's. Then put through another tank and went to fill up and the trip said I had 495km left. This is really great and just like with my EA endorse using high octane fuels, its really worth it.

500km/tank in a BA? Wow, looks like it mightn't be that more expensive to keep the EL s**t then! Does the car run smoother/better or ping less on premo fuel?

Well, I never really noticed it ever pinging in the first place, however the petrol definately gave the car a bit more balls, there really is a noticeable power gain. I remember they had no optimax and I had to run a tank of unleaded once and after about 10 km's, it felt like it had less enthusiasm.

Yeah, true that. My father's EL V8 Seems to love the premium stuff. It pings sometimes up high if he boots it, but on premium that all goes away. Guess your motor isn't old enough to tell eh!

As stoopid as this may sound, I used to get around 400km to a tank of fuel using 91-95 RON.
Now I use 98 RON (I have a company card which pays for my fuel ), I'm getting 500km to a tank. Not that I really give a s**t, but I'll save the fuel consumption arguement for another day No noticeable performance gain, but the engine does feel like it's running a touch smoother. The thing to remember though, is that it isn't really the increase in octance that would be making much of a difference (especially in an e-series), rather the fact that it is a "detergent" fuel, which cleans carbon deposits. |

yeh, good point downingj. well if its keeping the engine clean and happy, prolonging its life and giving you better mileage, then its doing it job.

Ive currently running my 1st tank of 95ron ever. Wasnt worth it in the old corolla, and only really ran the tank towards empty for the 1st time the other day on the BA, petrol was cheap so i thought why the hell not. Engine seems to be running smoother, definatley more economical, not really any noticable performance increase though. Might give the 98 a go
EDIT: on another note, i picked up the latest motor mag today, said in the letter section that they also notice some differences in performance using different ron fuels and they might do a feature on it. Would be interesting for someone to have a proper look into it

yeah i reckon i might, theres only one servo nearby that sells it though and i dont normally drive past there. How much more expensive is the 100 stuff anyway?

I think about 4c more than 98. I drive up to templestowe to get mine, if the trip isn't long, go for it.

ha you talk of fuel econ in this thread and in another thread say your getting 4.11's fitted.
p.s. what gives with the 100octane fuel, did your av-gas supplier run out? |

100 Octane (V-Power Racing 5% Ethanol) is 9c/L more than Optimax in QLD

4:11 's wont change your fuel economy THAT much.

So the best thing to clean out an old engine you reckon would be to fill up with 98 or 100 and then floor it around a bit?
If so, I can use that when I am on my L's doing 180 down the M4... "Sorry officer, I was just learning to how to clean the engine!" |
