ok every time i fix my fuked up car i get another problem i put new belts on it not long ago then the pulley seezed and snapped one and wrecked the other 2
so now i have new belts on them and a new power steering idel pulley again and im pretty sure its the alternator one because the alternator gauge is reading low when it screaches and high when it doesn't how do i fix this irotating noice i have also put belt grip on them

check tightness of belt and remember overtightening the belt will cause it to screech as well as undertightening. early e-series are b**ch for that.

its bloody tight i tell yu
i realy don't know what to do maybe if i give my pulleys a light sand or something

Well as i tried to say it doesn't need to be BLOODY TIGHT!!!! if it's BLOODY TIGHT, loosen it off before you root all ya bearings....

the noise is from the belt slipping. i use soap as this is wat i have been told over the yrs by older mechanics, ilde engine an hold dry soap on underside belt, an yeh belt should have small amount of flexs.

yeah well normaly when things are BLODDY TIGHT!!! they dont slip and its still slipping so maybe the pullys have polished and theres no real surface to grip on
also badkiwi i used belt grip it looked like candle wax so if that didnt do teh job i cant see soap working but i cant see any harm in trying it i have plenty of soap in the bathroom cheers

mate only trying to pass on experiance from working on my own car and several other E series with the same problem!! there should be a fair amount of give in the belts.
But if you wanna do it your way thats fine.

i dont have a way lol
i do know the pulleys f**k up from having to much tension i think thats how i f**k up my power steering idling pulley what do you think i should do man should i give the pulley grooves a light sand?

okay if it's bloody tight just spray some belt grip on it. works a charm

so do u recon belt grip in the spray can would work better than teh stick one i have some belt grip in the shed ill try that
and krisisdog im a that tempted to do the conversion does not seem to hard at all i have thermos which i will be chucking in soon so thats the clutch fan eliminated after that just change a few pulleys and bobs your anti

I think the only 'hard' part is sourcing an xg/xh (whatever it is) pulley/tightener setup.

yeah im spewing tehre was one at the wreckers the other day
i put thet belt dressing on and it still screeches my alternator belt is not as tight as i thought it is it still has A bit of play in it should i tighten it more so there is litle bend in it also my alternator gauge is showing in the middle and low in stead of high and 3 quarters of the way maybe could it be my alternator insides no spinning properly there for making the belt slip p.s the alternator is only 4 months old

i fixed it lol
i just tenchened it even more so its realy tight now but at least the screaching has gone away and the alternator is working fone now cheers for the help peoples
