Im sure a few people have cut a hole in the bottom of their airbox and engine bay and ran a pipe to the front bar duct, but im wondering will that make the car unroadworthy?
Im keen on doing it, but dont wanna be paying insurance for a car thats not even covered..... |

People cut holes there for the front mount intercooler but i heard that aftermarket front mounts are illegal but i dont know if thats correct.

according to adr's both a pod filter and an i/c are permittable on a vechile so long as the number plate is cleary visable from 20mtr distance and also if the support panels/rail have not been modifies. but from an epa point of view only one or the other are permitable. ie pod filter but no i/c or vice versa. you'd be fine putting a pod behind your bar. just dont mount it too low or you may suck up some water when driving through puddles etc.

Sorry i should have mentioned the pod filter will be in the original box i just wanna supply more air to the box via the front bar going through the bottom of the airbox, cause the snorkle is just s**t by itself considering the bonnet closes up
around it Who would i ring up about these legalities, im guess QLD Transport for starters? |

Technically I believe it is illegal (as are intercoolers) but you won't get picked for this unless you're being a tool.

yeah not gonna worry about it as the rules are you can do it as long as you dont affect the structural component of the guard/engine bay.
In other words its something insurance could bend and twist to put against you |

I ran a 3 inch pipe down to the front bar on my EF a few years back, i didn't have any problems getting a RWC when i sold it last year.
I drilled straight down through the bottom of the airbox and through the skirt, it was easy as mine didn't have ABS. |
