I dont know about everyone else here, but I notice that I go through it when I have put it in my EL. Like I check me dipstick everyweek and it seems to use about 60ml of Full Synthetic where as when I use Semi-Synthetic the oil level on the dipstick never budges at all!!

You need to do a decent engine flush when changing from semi- to full synthetic. Just get a bottle of engine oil flush when you do your oil change and that should get MOST of the old oil no prob!

that is surprising as all my research says that full synthetic should seal much better with the rings. if thats the case does anyone know of any good 20-50 semisynthetic oil. was going to get motul 15-50. as all i can find are mineral 20-50. thanks p.s. never use oil flush on any engine with more than abt 80,000k's on it.

I use the mobile 1 - and never use a drop. When changing from any other oil to a fully sik synthetic one just make sure you do it after a nice long run when you engine is really hot - leave it draining over night if you can then you will get pretty much every last drop out.

And give it at least 2 changes before you form your opinion... i was running mobil 1 for a while... 5w50... engine loved it, wallet didnt...

Mobil 1 here as well! Have used it since I got the EL @27000km, now 145000km and doesn't use a drop. Excellent oil pressure even when HOT.
It's on special for less than $60 in Supercheap's latest junkmail. |

I run AMSOIL 10w-40 in my EL 6 pot. I used an Amsoil engine flush before switching to get all the gunk out, so it didn't polute the synthetic oil.

I did the same as Hornet, The best thing with Amsoil is the long periods between oil change, so therefore it costs equal to standard oil

so whats the best oil for an EL with near 200,000 k's on it ???
Im not sure of the oil it had in prior to when I bought it, but after I got it i changed it to Castrol Magnatec, have just recently started having problems with it (also puddles of fluid from SOMEWHERE dunno where or what). So I gotta change it this weekend, whats the best oil for an older engine like this? And why not use engine oil flush in engines over 80,000 k's ? I used it @ 170,000 when I got it... |

you should never use engine flush EVER.
engine flush damages your bearings. if you use the right oil and change on time you will never need and engine flush. ford recomend a 15w40 oil for your engine. pic a brand and get the wright weight oil. if after using 15w40 your engine is burning oil change to a slightly thiker oil. say 10w50, 15w50 or 20w50. if your engine is still burning oil, it's probaly due for a freshen up. but you could use a 20w60 or 25w60. BUT your fuel economy will suffer because of the higher levels of oil drag if you must use an Xw50 oil i recomend penrite HPR10 (10w50) |
