yeh maybe if the engine was out of the car & i had a direct line of sight without any obstacles.
Anyhow i think you may have misinterpreted my meaning. 30 years of owning Fords & never once have we changed a HB. Front main seal yes but never HB. I'll have to take a closer look at it. I think it may be in fact the HB but i really don't want to speculate at this moment. |

From the photo's the ribs on your serpentine belt look very low, the belt will pull outwards if the grooves don't grab the balancer groves.
I would try a new belt first, but in saying this it does look like the balacner has moved out a little...

I think I did missinterprite you mate. Owning not working on...
Easy way to tell. Fire her up and watch the ballancer. It shouldn't "wobble" very much to if at all. Id go new belt (due to dammage from rubbing and general wear) and a new balancer. No need for any special type, its not a race car and balancers last 100xxxks+ easy. I think protourque sell a aftermarket verion for around $100. The ballancer does look to be sitting out from the timing marks slightly in the pic. |

thats the thin when i removed the thermo fans to take a look at the balancer it seems fine.
No wobbling of any kind. It sits & spins perfectly. This is why i don't believe its the balancer. But i may as well change it for now & see how it all goes. In regards to buying a better HB i was only trying to future proof the engine. Soon enough i will have a turbo setup. If there's such thing as a better balancer then why not??? If it will prove to be cheaper in the long run, then i'm game. |

Well if you are going turbo replacing the balancer wouldn't be a bad idea at all. It could have slipped out slightly. You should be able to compare allignment between a couple pullys at a time.
Have you noticed anything that's off line at all. Or does it just look off on the tentioner? |

Or does it just look off on the tentioner? It's either HB or A/C ribbed pulley. Also it looks a little off from the water pump as well but not as bad as the bottom tensioner pulley. All the rest are fine. i'll try & make a little iPhone video of the setup running & stationery. |

race one you'd put on if it was a drift car or speedway or something. because it'd be in high rpms constantly. but for a daily car a standard one will be fine

LOL, nah not revving past 7K. i think it cuts out at 6K if my memory serves me correctly.
Sweet i've seen some aftermarket balancers for like $100 on eBay + around $20 for a front main seal from local car parts dealer. I'll probably need to buy a harmonic balancer remover tool. I read somewhere that one guy bought a cheapie & then cut the long bolt by around 40mm & that saved him from removing the radiator. I'll see how it all goes. it should be done by Thursday. I'll post back with some results. Fingers X'ed |
