for $100 i don't think its that bad & it's a NuLine brand which i can honestly say i've never really heard of.

See your local Auto Pro store, they have them for around the $100.00.

Also remember the Puller for the AU harmonic balancer is different to the EF/EL. You use hook type that you push in and twist to lock on the inside of the balancer where the EF/EL one uses bolts to attach the puller to the Balancer.

Yep i seen a really cool remover on the internet.

But for $180 odd dollars i don't think its worth it for me.

I know what you're talking about however Joe. I've seen the difference on eBay actually. Have to get the supercheap puller which has the 3 claw type bits on it.

That is the puller that you will need to do the AU Balancer.

That's like $180. i don't think i'll be buying that one. Not for removing 1 or 2 HB's.

If you use the Outer Claw type puller and your Harmonic Balancer has seperated, you will only puller the outer off and leave the inner section of the Balancer still on the crank.

that sounds like my current predicament at the moment.

It seems that the outer has separated from the inner this is why my serpentine belt seems to be out of whack on the lower pulley of the tensioner.

I was thinking of buying this little cheapie from supercheap auto..

If you use that type and the Balancer has seperated the above will possibly happen, not saying it will 100% but there is a very good chance it will.

To be truthful, I am not sure. I would think that if you can get the rubber part off, you might be able to get the Claw Puller around the inner section of the balancer.

You can use that super cheap puller on an AU HB from the inside if you grind a bit off the end of each pivot point so the arms can get straighter.

any tips/pointers for removing the front main seal?

may as well do that as well once the HB is off.

The front edge of the belt on my EF was wearing a groove into the tensioner. It was due to wear in the tensioner. If you look at the tensioner it's two pieces separated by a nylon or similar looking spacer/washer/disc - ie. evidently so the moving part can do so smoothly. If that's worn then the moving part of the tensioner can C**k over and you get the belt riding forward.

Look at the spacer between the two parts of the tensioner - you'll see straight away if it's worn away at one section.

New tensioner complete assembly is only $90 or so off ebay. I haven't even done mine yet - I just put a washer under the rear housing of the tensioner - ie. on the driver side most bolt between the tensioner housing and the timing case - which has compensated for the angle worn spacer and makes the belt run true again.

If it's the balancer then fair enough - but if it's still doing it after a new balancer then have a look at what I've described. (this all reminds me I really need to organise a new tensioner for my car).

When using a puller on the balancer, be careful not to damage the crank bolt hole threads with the puller pilot - ie. run the pilot on the head of the loosened crank bolt or make sure the pilot will fit into the hole without it's threaded portion interfering with the threads in the hole - ie. grind off some of the pilot thread if necessary.
