My serpentine belt is rubbing from the front of the belt on the metal part of the tensioner from the lower pulley.
I have put another unit on (used) but it still seems to be doing the same thing. Now i have looked at my serpentine belt & have noticed that this hasn't been going on for a long time. Does anyone know why this might be happening? |

I agree with WILDEB.
You need to replace the harmonic balancer. Cheers BenJ

So does that mean front main seal & harmonic balancer needs to be changed as well??

i would change the seal while your changing the balancer, you dont want to have to pull it all apart to fix a leaking seal not long after you change the balancer

Maybe you guys can tell me what you think if i put up a couple of pics?
I mean don't get me wrong i am not questioning your comments but we as a family have owned Ford Falcon's since i was 5 years old. I can not recall once that dad or I replaced a harmonic balancer.

either the car has previously been in a frontal smash and the tensioner was struck and forced backwards, or the waterpump pully is misaligned. Some pump pulleys are pressed on too far and the belt actually hangs over the front edge slightly, fraying the belt and eventually breaking it.

The tensioner has just been replaced by another used unit.
My old tensioner is having the same issue as this used replacement tensioner. I will take a couple more pics of the water pump pulley setup. The water pump is still original factory from what i could see. Motor only had 90,000KM's when i put it in. I've done around 30,000KM's since i installed it. |

the water pump pulley has no effect on the ilignment off the belt.
the ribbed pulies are what align the belt, harmonic balancer, alternator, powersteer pump top tensioner pulley and aircon compressor... |

Going by this logic (which i do agree) i would have to conclude that it's either A/C or Harmonic Balancer. The other ribbed pulley's are all aligned properly as are all the other free spinning pulley's. |
