The oil that Ford uses and recommends for the BA/BF is 5W-30W. I doubt you would do any damage with 10W- 40W.

umm one final thing if you dont mind !

was using 10 40 nulon oil a bad decision ? i drove it today for about 10 mins and it warmed up to about half way apposed to quarter before. is this a bad thing ? im gonna be sure to keep my eyes on it to see if it gets near 3 quarters.

but will having 10 40 in my car damage anything ?

I've got a Bf MkII, which sits between 3/8ths up the gauge. If it gets to 3 quarters then I'd be worrying.
I personally haven't used Nulon oil, I use Mobil because that's what my workshop uses.
As for that, according to Mobil techs, Ba's can run 15W-40. We usually use Mobil DMX 15W-40 in Ba's and Bf MkI with a 'Worn Engine' oil additive supplied by Wynns, then the techs say use 5W 30 in Bf mkII and onwards, which we use Mobil Formula S 5W 30.
