Well coonsidering EFFs run coil packs and don't have distributors your going to have a very hard time finding a dizzy cap to fit!
filters - oil, air and fuel
fresh oil, fresh pluugs, leads if your old ones are worn, check your fluuid condition (if you do replace it worth doing the thermostat and gasket as same time if havn't been done recently to your knowledge).
check hoses and belts and replace if need be.
your injectors probably need a proper clean (pulled ouut and cleaned), but try a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank first and run some tanks of premium through it.
your oxygen seensor, cat converteer and/or map sensor may be tired and not helping your fuel economy situationtoo.

cheers mate, ill do the basic items first then move onto the other stuff, one more question, my gearbox is getting confused on what gears in it and being odd, would a general service on my transmission help that?

and how much is a new thermostat?

If you have a fuel problem,(using too much fuel).Have a look at your thermostat. It may be stuck open.Being stuck open puts a lot more in the tank.

it's always a good idea to reguarly change the filter in the tranny and replace as much fluid as possiable (obviously can only do all if a profesional does a full flush).
