Not sure how much can be taken off, but you will weaken the head....it is only alloy. If you want compression, build an engine thats meant for more compression.......its safer.

30 though would be alot. There is an indicator on the back of the head to show how much has been taken off, that indicator shows the limmit that ford reccomends. But like EA_FALCON said pinging and dettination is an issue and so is ecconomy and valve clearance. The safest way to up you compression is to change pistons!

Lol i was also thinking that as soon as i saw 40 thou off the head and 8 thou of the block not to mention a thinner gasket and hi comp pistons. I would love to know what comp ratio you have in that engine. Are you running it on LPG?

I shaved 50" from the head, 15" from the block, ACL race pistons to get a comp ratio of 11.3:1. And yes Im running LPG. Head is being reworked again, to get more comp, might even give the block another 5" so the pistons will be flush at TDC instead of 5" down the bore.

given Im a mechanic and work for a engine reconditioning place, all will be well. Every thing will be double checked and then checked again

I'm doing something similar but sticking with std pistons and my engine builder is planning on flycuts for extra insurance. Just interested to see what others have done in this situation.
