the solenoid is in the gearbox, but in the 4spd (eb-ed) are controlled by the ECU which is in the passenger footwell. (left hand side) theres a green wire there that ya chop and join ya shift kit into, you basically blead off another (red) wire 12voltVCC to alter the currents which can be switched etc to change pressure in the s5. you rejoin your shiftkit outlet wire to the gearbox side (the non ECU end of the chopped green wire) and it works..
wire colour/pins are diff for each model but this was what it was like for my ed. which is going in EDsteves car. (i went one better and got a manual)

what purpose would it serve being on a normal road car?? and will it kill the box/auto clutch real quick?? im assuming this will make the long period of time it takes for the auto to change alot less?? just help me, im stupid, i gots no idea what these kinda mods do!!! Yes, the shift kits reduce the time it takes for your trans to chang gear, for someone like me with a super slow changing piece of crap, a shift kit would work wonders. No extra stress caused to gearbox, but as was mentioned earlier in this thread expect increased stress on Uni Joints and Diff. If you want a serious drag weapon with an auto, a shift kit is the way to go.

the shift kit doesnt replace or bypass the S5 solenoid does it ?
My mates ED Fairmont has a stuffed S5 which would cost hundreds to replace. |

your mates gonna need a new solenoid anyways so he may as well get an adjustable one and boost the pressure with the screw before he puts it in.

The AU S5 solenoid is the adjustable one, and they fit EAII-EL Falcons too. I have one in my car, but its adjusted to the stock setting ATM, but next trans service its getting turned up a bit.

A shift kit or an AU variable pressure solenoid (S5)?
Trans service should be around $50 labour + $50 parts and fluid depending on how thorough the mechanic is. I insist on full torque converter flushes. Shift kit can be made and fitted from as little as $6. Or order one from shiftkits.com.au, anywhere between $60 odd and $110 odd. All very easy to fit yourself. AU solenoid - anyones guess! Have heard them being installed for $200 but alos heard of people paying $400 for the solenoid alone.
