Ok, i need to settle something once and for all. What are the main differences between a physical shift kit and an electronic shift kit? I saw an electronic one for my BA on ebay for $70 and then I see physical ones for like $400. I've read electronic shift kits can all be 'switched off' and the physicals ones can be turned off if equipped with that function. Now if these electronic ones are viable and not a scam, is it possible to construct them yourself. I've done a search on this but have only been able to come up with fragments here and there. Any opinions would be appreciated. I'm very interested in this as this could potentially be a cheaper mod than a snorkel!!

the electronic shift kits are hard wired into the wiring of the car and change the voltages sent to teh ecu/tranny solenoids
giving a higher fluid pressure = hard and faster shifts

quite easy to build and costs around $25 max in parts :)
also being electronic a simple on/off switch can be used to tunr the kin on and off

while the physical kit is were a auto tranny shop actually changes teh solenoids etc inside the gearbox for the exact same result
imho i would prefer the gearbox mod rather than electronic
but for what the electronic kit does DO IT DO IT
and also get the snorkel

Yes its possible to build the electronic kits yourself. PM me if you'd like the info.

A physical shiftkit involves replacing the valvle body and solenoids etc to change the way which the trans actuates the gear change.

ALL the electronic device does is restricts current to the S5 solenoid (the variable pressure solenoid) which prevents the ECU from reducing line pressure during gear changes (it does this to make the gear change feel smooth and comfortable.... pfft)

But yeah... pm me...
