Hey,
i brought a shift kit, and after reading a couple of articles found searching Google, people are complaining that after 5k or KM's there gear boxes are dieing and or giving them a lot of trouble I would like to know your thoughts on the matter Thanks |

That you should start by posting in the right forum. if your gearbox is in good (newish) condition it will prolong the life and let it handle more power as there is more line pressure which means more clamping and less slipping. However if your box has a few k's on it and things are getting a little loose then having the shift kit banging it through gears will help it on its way to gearbox heaven.

Ok what sort of box do you have? Old school 3 hydraullic speed box or a modern electronic 4 speed auto?

Having done a few shift kits on EF's to AU's, and most of these on ex cabs with high kay autos with very crap changes, I have found that adding a soft shift kit actually helps them change gear alot better.
yeah real good to have a real hard shift in an old box, but go the softer option it can save you changing that trans for a while. I did one recently that was slipping dreadfully in second and third, thru in the shift kit, and you would think it was a rebuilt trans, and this car does on average 300 kays a day..... The owner was very happy and all I charged him was 20 bucks

Alright, well its done around 230,000kms, and its a 1995 ford falcon ef, so you tell me rofl, i wouldn't have a clue what gearbox

all shift kits are for the BTR 4 speed Autos EB-AU are 2 resistors namely a 5.6 ohm and a 18 Ohm (hard shift) or a 22ohm (soft shift), and its the 22ohm that I use in the higher kay trans to gather up the slack so to speak.
This gives a nice firm shift and the other(18ohm) hard shift tends to braek traction alot when it rains (cool fun) to make a switchable shift kit costs about $10 to make.

I wiouldn't do a google search and read any old thing about a shift kit destroying a gear box, as you don't know what type of shift kit there talking about (could be a completely different style to that you have), and it's priobably a completely different transmission too.
I think very few if any have actually had a problem. |

I think very few if any have actually had a problem. I think of the 3 people I personally know who have had them installed on a BTR all blew a gearbox within 12 months.
