Well, You know how it goes : Friday night, and instead of being a weekend, you have work to do. Not so bad, its overtime.
But then 11pm hits and your wide awake. What do you do? Well, tonight, I went to the shed and did the under car work for my manual conversion : Ripped out the Auto (no oil spillage!), installed the manual, everythings back in underneath except for the Exhaust. Tomorrow I do the Electrical, finish the exhaust (ok, so people dont like angle grinders going off at 3am!), and Im considering doing the bushes in the back of the car as well. Im starting to feel a little tired. Cheers |

ROFL - 3.5 hrs sleep, and Im moving again. Doing some interior work before I head back under the car to do the exhaust (and perhaps rear bushes).
Ive done a few manual conversions. Swapped from manual to auto to manual every 2 weeks for 2 months once in an XD, and changed from a 6 to an 8 (and running) in 2 hrs once also. No EFI of course - easier. I gotta say though that im sore!. Im not nearly as nimble as I used to be. |

manual conversions are ezy.
i did one in 10 hours.. (over 2 daze) that was in a front yard... pissing down with rain. and stopping for food and get out of rain.. and i had to cut the floorpan out for the T5. so without the stoppages.. i can prob do it in about 5 hours i recon..

.. which is about how long it took me. By self.
Big Weekend - Gearbox, exhaust, and today I did all the rear bushes (yeah, control arms are FUN NOT) but the car is interesting now, and I have a very nice note. |

sleep?!
with all random conversions I've done I can't get to sleep, anxiety kicks in and I can't rest until its done! Even worse when you strike a problem halfway and have to put it back together so you can travel to work the next day! to solve that problem, buy a motorbike and stick it in the corner of the shed!

LOL - Im exactly the same - Its like I have a list of things to work through till its done -and at some point it crosses into "must be finished this stint"
Yesterday I did all the rear bushes. used the "Drill em out and then Hacksaw" method. Last did this with an XD in the late 80/s and early 90's. Forgot how much not-fun it is. Also forgot how much time it takes to do it right (you know - not cut through the arms. Gotta say, the lowers were s*it. Uppers were a little better. I have a small press though so putting the new ones in wasnt so bad. How good was the car. Finished putting it together, turned the key, and it fired first time. Awesome. |

I know how you feel with the conversion man, i did mine in about 8hrs, inc engine swap as well, by myself in the driveway. Good on ya btw!
I also get issues sleeping & usually get into the shed to wear myself out, i've got a torana, a panel van, and then some small parts for my might boy to work on. Only problem atm is it's too damn cold in the shed @ night. I think i gotta build a little furnace! Cheers ToranaGuy

I did the VCT conversion in Sydney and it was cold. Im in QLD now - and have an 8m * 9m shed to work in - which is insulated!!. Thats awesome. mind you ive just had the door open for the past few days because its been so barmy. Did the all nighter to put the gearbox in and was in a tshirt all night. |

I wish i was further north atm, could get more done @ night after work.
It's been so damn cold down here we have had ice on the car's some mornings, and i've even had condensation forming on the inside of my shed roof! I started work on a heater for the shed today. Just an old 50lt hot water service that will become a pot belly. Should be good enough to take the chill out of the shed. Cheers ToranaGuy

Clutch seems good - unsure of how it will hold up yet. (is it HD?)
Im having no end of fun with the shift : I have a shortened shifter (I machined it down properly in er... 92 I think) and it has Poly Bushes in it instead of the rubber. Its fairly hard on the hand to shift, but nice and positive. Big weekend. I was so stoked that it *all* came together at startup |

clutch is a stock one from memory. it should still hold up to a decent bit though. i still wish i had been able to put it in mine, would've been better than the one i've got in there now!!
and yeah, well done again mate. |
