Heya guys n girls,
I raced my mates VS last nite and couldnt help but notice that my car got absoluting creamed off the line, now i know that the vs is pretty quick but this was rediculous. I was wondering if anyone had any input on y my car is so crap off the line - if we are rolling then i can just beat his VS. Now ill tell ya bout my car: Bog stock EL ex taxi with f**k loads of K's - i figure the engine is tired but was wondering if anyone with EL's with lower k's can keep up with VS's. He has a standard VS series 2, with a cat back exhaust and cold air intake - thats about it. Oh and we are also both shift kitted. however getting to about 100+ km/h my car starts to creep away from his - given we are rolling. wondering if anyone can help me with my prob. Cheers |

for starters falcons have a eternal 1st gear so you will probably never beat a commo of the line, secondly the motor will be tired from doing that many kilometres. an EL should s**t over a VS once both cars are over 80km/h.
and i assume this "race" was on private land?

Yeah, those Commys have short first gears, that gives them a bit of time to shine, until the Falcon grabs second, and leaves it in it's dust.

engine torque * gearbox gearing * diff gearing - driveline losses = torque at wheels.
In short, the commodore is getting more torque to the wheels while it's using the significantly shorter first gear. Combine that with less mass to make move and it's a no-brainer. Once the gearing starts to level out more (2nd/3rd/4th gears), engine torque is more relevant and that is where the 4.0 shines against the 3.8 A manual falcon's 1st gear is similar to the 1st in an auto/manual commodore, subsequently the engine is pretty much the deciding factor (ignoring driver ability) and that's a good thing for us

your engine and gearbox are tired, if your car had LSD, then its most probably worn.
i can guarentee that.. btw, have they resurfaced Benara Rd yet? |
