I've posted this message in another forum but I thought here would also be a benefit!

I've bought an EBII Fairmont and after driving a 90kw Mazda 626 for a while...I sort of expected a lot more power...

It doesnt help that at the moment I've got a hole probably the size of a coffee cup in one of my mufflers from a little accident....but thats in another thread

My engine just doesnt really seem to want to go past 2000rpm....you give it what seems to be a fair push and it still changes at 2000....in Power mode I can get it to 3500 but even that is almost a struggle....is this normal lol?

To compare I drove my mates VR Commodore and supposedly its got 125kw or so....it had no troubles going past 5000rpm, with moderate accelerator - not to mention it felt much more responsive!

I have a slight theory.....my family used to have an EA wagon (bench seat etc ) and the Power and Eco button allowed you to switch it to both Power and all the way accross to Eco....on my EBII you can not press the Eco side of the button...it just stops - so there's the central position and then Power - which shows up on the dash when selected....any relation maybe?

I can rev the car all the way to the limiter in neutral and from a few checks it doesnt really seem as if the throttle cable is strectched (though it's still possible!)

It's just when driving..it doesnt feel like its got much....go?

I dunno - maybe the EBII engine is just sluggish?

Sounds like its tired... get the exhaust fixed then do/get a service done on it.

sounds like it could be an exhaust blockage, check for bent pipes especialy around the cat converter.
its rare the cats collapse inside but ya never know.

whats it like on idle? is it rough

long shot.. vacuum issue? spark dieing?

I'm guessing electrical.. poor spark or something.. bad earth somewhere possibly too..

Does it just rev like this when there's a load, ie: in drive / gear?

a good healthy eb should go as good if not better than a vs commo..

i would look at things like blocked/dirty air filter
a blocked/dirty fuel filter.
possibly dirty injectors.

or a colapsed cat converter which could be restricting exhaust flow..which will hold the engine revs under load

considering you just brought the car try the normal servicable items like filters plugs..
it could be as simple as your ignition timing??

Yeah ok I might give it in for a service...I've chucked some injector cleaner in the tank and I see if that'll improve it or anything...

The air filter from what I can see is almost brand new so I wouldnt imagine that would be the cause...but you never know...

I might have to get the Cat checked out I think!

id say its quite normal, my ed was sluggish, no matter how many services ect, put a sports exhuast on it and extractors picked up a bit of power, then i converted it to a manual, compleatly different car. its just the gearing of the auto's, just take a little playing around :p

Ah ok thats fair enough....might just give it a while to get used to it!

Its unfortunate at the moment because of my ruined muffler that I can't really foot to the floor in it - I'd blow the ear-drums of people 5 km's away!

the problem could also be in the throttle position switch..
as this tells the ecu how much throttle your using and it also determins when the trans will change gear..
