Can't say I've driven the later model commodore stuff, would be interested to hear.

well the monaro was a 6 speed manual and it hauled a** through 1st, 2nd 3rd. heavy a** car that didnt handle *too* badly. lets just say i could only really use the first 3 gears properly because the standard brakes suck

yeh you're not wrong they just bolt off the mark if you stall them up.
they do run out of puff at high rpm too.

wow, sometimes i forget people havent all driven BA's as regularly as i do at work.
i did a service on a stock VZ sedan the other day at work, and everything you look at underneath just seems half done compared to a BA. things like extra brackets bolted between the rails and the weak looking poor-for-your-tires IRS

Dads got a stock vz, 2000k's on it. it has a very smooth acceleration curve, but doesn't have that lowdown pull we ford drivers like. steerings pritty good but the throttle responce is s**t. s**t than s**t. took it down a dirt road to test the ESP thing. works well till you actually want to avoid something, turn the wheel at 50, 40, 30, still slowing, want to steer away from the roo? it will keep the nose pointed in the same direction. he had an identical one last time with shagged rears. long story short. 90k's on a wet road at night roo comes out, abs comes on and the back moves out, i correct so does the car, i go the other way, so does the car. the dam thing second guessed everything i tried to do to avoid the stupid roo!

it was a very lucky roo. it missed by the skin on its teeth. i think this ESP stuff is going to cause trouble tho. you need to be able to switch it off (a software thing when the first genaration of bogans get VZ's) but think about the legal s**t if it over corrected the correction i made? at one point i was looking at trees!

(PS. ESP makes it hard to do circle work in paddocks ;-))

i've only driven EL falcon, commodore VT S, commodore VZ sv6 and one of the last monaro's that had an LS2 fitted to it.

Well obviously the monaro just kicked a*** and left two black lines as long as an elephants penis....however i find the VZ sv6 doesnt feel as fast as the VT S even though its claimed to have more power.

I like our VT commodore S, i think it handles well, there is little body roll and it sticks to the road, the engine is also feels very good except for the fact that it sounds like it might blow after you get over 5000.

The falcon engine is fairly comparible to this, however while the EL has lighter steering, it also suffers from bodyroll something chronic and cant take corners near as fast as the commodore, however after i get suspension (lowering, shocks, swaybars) and some bigger wheels with fatter tread i will re evaluate.

Well I can tell you I had a vy cv8 chasing me through the hills once in my stock el xr6. I took every corner at at least 20km/h more and didn't once screech the tyres, he slid through three corners and almost put it off a cliff once, after that i lost him, then he screamed past me at about 150 when we hit a straight.

Nonsense. The 6 speed auto BF Typhoon is the fastest australian production car at present, the LS2 equipped commodores, while quick, ar not as quick as the turbo 6.
