WTF would cause a plug to be so f**king tight as to the point of snapping on removal?(i swear it was the in law & not me)

Lack of anti seize when it was installed. Seek professional help in removing it as you don't want to fill the cylinder up with broken insulator.

or improper use of spark plug tool, if the rubber grommet inside the tool is missing the plugs can snap

i always take out hot. i did once cold and rounded of edges so have always changed plugs on warm/hot engine

I recently had this happen on my drift cars engine. It all ended in tears as after the top of it snapped off, i decided to call the meet a day and load it on the trailer.
While doing so, the centre of the plug dropped into the engine and f****d it. Expensive exercise. Also, i tried getting it out hot, and thats when it snapped. Professional help as said is the best, otherwise its a head off job. ALWAYS use anti seize!!!. Andrew.

I have never used anti-sieze. where do i get some? how much? and how do i use it? because i really dont want that to happen

I've changed plenty of spark plugs on friends and families cars, and they have never snapped and I never used anti-sieze. Maybe people are overtightening them.

same here - never used or even heard of anti seize!!
my moto with plugs is never tighten them more than what you could do with a socket on the end of a screwdriver.

Why would you need to make them so tight anyway, its a spark plug not the sydney harbour bridge.

only ever happened to me when the head gasket went car was only suited to wrecking then, and I didn't do it was the mechanic, if i knew what i know now would have been a different story, that said i only do them up to hand tightness, think in my workshop is has a certain tightness for them which I've done in the past always been good. check to see to that the threads on them are good and you don't cross thread them as you put them in.

From the official BA service manual.
Anti-Seize Compound Ford Spec. General SAM-1C-9107A or SAM-1C-9107A Spark plug threads ESE-M1244-A Torque 10Nm Interesting that the spark plug replacement procedure does not mention putting anti seize on them...

Hehe, the sydney harbour bridge is riveted and not bolted! I have caught my brother out overtightening them, He thought because it had to seal that a bit more wouldnt hurt.... Anti seize is good, but not necessary if you dont overtightend them.
