So a very small amount of you may remember me from the never ending (1995 EF Falcon Issue) topic and that i did solve that issue. But now i have a new issue, check out the image to see what i mean.
Now despite what you see the car is now rebuilt and back to it's old self (Apart from a black bonnet and guard temporarily) but it did have a few issues (all but one is fixed) due to the smash. The car will only start when the fuel pump has direct power from one of those mini portable power packs. So naturally we went straight for a new fuel pump relay...no luck. Any guess as to what could be the problem? It only works when there is direct power to the fuel pump... Thanks for any help it advance. |

I'd suggest you chase the wiring back from pump to battery and find where the break is. if you cannot find one, run a new wire to the pump and that should fix your issue. I'd say there is a break in the loom somewhere, Are you suggesting there is NO power to the pump currently? or insufficient power to the pump currently? Have you tested with a multimeter to verify you have or have not got power?

Sorry about the pic issue unless you're on a mobile i see no reason why the pic would interfere with loading the post.
Anyway umm yeah basically while the pump is hooked up normally there is 0 power getting to it, no buzz no little clicking sound when cranking the key nothing. But when its hooked up to a power box it works perfectly normal. Would there be any negative effects from running a new wire straight from the pump to the relay? Is that even possible? And how would you go about doing such a thing? Thanks for the reply johnson. |

Check to see if you have power to the relay.
If you have, then there will be a break in the wiring from the relay to the pump. Running a new wire will cause no issues in this situation. If you have no power to the relay, then you will need to check this circuit. Could be that the activation wire is not powering or there is no direct main power. |

Hello,
When you run a new wire, make sure it is from the relay. The relay will cut the power in a crash, if you run it from another source it may keep pumping fuel through a severed fuel line. When electric fuel pumps came out in Jap. cars, they always had a cut-out from the Oil or Charge circuit for that reason.

Thanks for the reply's.
Had an auto electrician friend come out and do a bunch of multimeter tests and power was flowing in all the right places UNTIL it got to the connectors on the pump itself (one of the left) so we're getting another pump out of an EF at the wreckers for $55 and see if that works. By all accounts it should so here's hoping, Will let you guys know. |

So its been a while since my last post about getting a new fuel pump. We got one and still didn't fix the problem. Just to clue any new people in on the issue. I smashed my Ford, repaired everything and now the fuel pump does not work when hooked up to the car. BUT it works when we hook it up to an external power source.
So we checked all the relays wires fuses connectors EVERYTHING!. Still no luck, Iv'e since then bought another car to keep on the move. 94 Toyota Soarer GT, talking about a s**t box! 165 KW and nothing to show for it. Anyway so now I'm on the hunt for anything like a kill switch or an Inertia switch that flips when the cars in an accident. Iv'e read about EL's and upwards having one in the footwell up under the glove box but i can't find it. Anyone know of such a thing? ~Chad. |

There isnt an inertia switch on the Falcons. Fuel pump is controlled by the EEC so if the engine stops the pump goes off.
Im going to be bold, and guess that the wire from the EEC to the Fuel Pump Relay is busted. I cant 100% remember if it goes through the BCM as well (I dont think so), but it does go from the ECU, through dash harness, to the fuel pump relay. The bit from Dash Harness to Fuel pump Relay goes via that side of the car which was smashed - so theres a good/half chance that either a wire in that harness was crimped/Cut, or shorted to the body. Start from there. A good way to test is to jumper the Fuel Pump wire at the EEC Plug. Remove the ECU, and then jumper pin 22 (short to ground to test - will only work with the ignition on). If the fuel pump starts, then the EEC is most likely faulty. If the Fuel pump doesnt start, then you need to find where the wiring is broken. Nigel |

Thanks Nigel great reply. Um we did go over all of the wires in the guard but there is always a chance we missed something. What i might do is trace the wires all the way from the pump through the car and make sure there isn't a break anywhere we missed.
Iv'e read that the ECU can cause the pump not to work if it was knocked about in the crash and also the fuse for the 10A CTRL Lamp if that's busted the car won't start. The fuse itself is fine but I've also read that tho it may look fine switching it out for a new one can fix it. ~Chad. |

If you can start the car by jumping the relay, then the CRT Lamp/BEM/Smartlock side is a-ok. The BEM isnt disabling start, and the ECU isnt either (it cuts the injectors)
Im going with a wiring fault. Nigel |

Best reply Iv'e ever had. Yeah when we got the pump working via a battery pack the car ran perfectly fine then we plugged the pump back and no go. What about the BCM? does that cause any issues like this? Either way I'm gonna pull the guard off and really get into the wires.

Did you power the fuel pump, or the fuel pump relay?
Have you checked to see if the HEGO Fuse has power? - The Fuel Pump relay gets power from the HEGO Fues Circuit (but not via the HEGO Fuse itself)... |

We powered the pump directly via the little pins in the pumps plug, Everything ran fine when we did. As for the HEGO fuses...If they're the ones next to the battery we checked all them and they're fine.
