For Duel Fuel Cars (mine being a 95 EF XR6)
I know that BigNik is wokring on this.. anyway: I want to know whether it is feasibile to have my running Gas for mainly daily driving/economy, and power with petrol. at the moment the gas is running heaps better and faster than it does on petrol.. i have Gas Leads, and Gas Spark Plugs. Would chips like Chiptorque be able to tune up the petrol side of things and make the car quicker, and then i get my mixtures tuned on gas for mainly economy? does that sound like its possible. i saw in one of BIGNIK's posts that hes looking at about 150rwkw on PULP, and 140rwkw on gas. (oh yer and R3 cam is going in this month as well) i would like to know how to go about doing this using the gas leads and sparkies. i am running stock XR ecu. cheers guys

Your petrol system is probably in need of a good clean and some rrefubishing, your injectors probably need cleaning, and the lines and tank and pump probably have gathered some muck since petrol doesn't run through there as often and that.

Leads are leads mate, and LPG plugs are basically the same heat range as XR6 plugs, it's only 1 down in the heat range from stock so no biggie really.
I'd be finding out why it's so down on petrol first, clogged injectors maybe? Then go from there. |

Walker: so leads shouldnt really hinder the performance too much?
i was speaking to rushed the other day.. and he said something that there might be the problem of the car not "Switching over" or something liek that? Its really breathless after 3500rpm cant remember what it was again... anyone heard about this?

Yeah, another great big wank. A good 8 mm lead is all that's needed for any car. I've been running LPG since 1990 and have always used 8 mm, i used the so called 9mm high performance leads in mid 90's and they s**t themselves (s**t quality) Buy good quality 8 mm and you wont have a problem, whether it be petrol or LPG. |

msg to egbignik (if he reads this): are u using gas leads? those bottles of injector cleaner do squat mate, they need to be removed and properly cleaned! Gas leads are just a marketing ploy (how do I know, well I sell them at work). They are better than stock there a bit heavier duty and longer lasting, but there not made for LPG specif, any car can benifit having better leads put on, but it's not like theyre changing the spark or anything special for LPG. as for gas plugs, there just the Tickford XR6 plugs, wouldn't effect your petrol running enough to notice. |

If that was the case if should be effecting his LPG performance aswell. But he says that is fine. It's more likely to be a problem that is specific to petrol only - such as petrol pump, lines, tank, injectors, regulator, etc. |

Nothing to say bigger leads arn't better, even if they just ahve more siliconey stuff around them it might help them last longer. as as soon as your ignition is in some way faulty LPG will start running like s**t. but then for the price difference you can usually buy two sets of standard 8mm leads for the price of some 10mm's and that. only reason i run 10mm's is couse they were cheap through work and there pretty and blue! |

I doubt you have one and you shouldn't needed one. this is often debated between LPG users, the majority don't use them, and then some drongos seem to think engines can't live with them, but ask any taxi mechanic if you need one and they'll agree you don't, and there getting 800,000km's plus out of the engines! Also Ford release brand new falcons that they warrenty without them! basically it's like flashlube that you put into old leaded cars, but for LPG in your car. And couse you can't put it in the LPG tank there's an underbonnet lubrication kit (Flashlube do a similar set up for there product aswell but most people just mix it in the tank - easier). |
