Hey all, hoping some1 can help em and my mate - he was taking out the spark plugs and cleaning them and wateva..one of them snapped off, leaving the top (the bent over part) and the thread in the head, and the rest came out, like all the ceremic and the small round electrode part....
so wtf do we do? try and get the threaded part out? can we disconnect the injector to that cylinder so we can drive it (otherwise it woudl flood? yes?) any ideas would be great!

You could try to use one of those tap and die removers that drills in and jams - hopefully it will undo. Otherwise maybe better off heading to a mechanic and get some help. it won't be a problem flooding that cylinder as it will still go out the exhaust valve. So you should be able to drive to get some advice.

Yeah maybe an easy out as suggested by happy.... reverse threaded drill but may do the same (it will loosen the thread as it drills in).
Or try calling captain thread/thread doctor/whatever you have in NSW. I wouldnt recommend driving it at all. And tell your mate a bit of grease on the thread of the new plug will make life much easier

dont try to knock it out cause u will f**k the thread whihc could end up meaning big probs, try and got somethin like an easy out, or anythin that maybe u can screw it out with and u should be right......

Good call. A grease with copper in it is the one to use. All of the fuel co's make a version of it.. Like they say, try an easy-out. After you get it out make a nozzle (piece of garden hose?) to fit a vac cleaner and suck any shrapnel out of the cylinder. Good luck mate, I've never had that happen but I've always been wary. |

easyout - that's what i was thinking off... I've had a plug snap off half way the top ceramic part but never below the bolt part...

Got the easy out right in there on the ratchet but the F**k thing wouldn't budge. had the sparky thread soaking in WD40 beforehand too. i think the next thing to try is to disconnect the injector and heat up the engine to operating temp.... then give the "easy" (:P) out another go. . . will keep u posted . . cheers

I did the same thing on a XF 6cyl. Ended up having to buy the re-thread kit. Had to drill out the broken off piece of plug, then had to cut in a thread one size bigger, and then screw in a thread insert that came with the kit.
If you go for this option, just make sure you use a magnet of some sort to pull out the pieces of plug out of the cylinder. Good luck!!! |

my mate took it to the mechanic, didnt have the time and patience to fuk around with it....$65 and its all good. i wanted to mess with it, but alls is good now so not worth worrying about. thanks guys
