EA 98 3 speed, centre point injection & gas, no spark for an hour up to 24 hours then ok again, does this every other day then it's ok again for weeks. Have changed the ECU and still happens. Anybody herd of this problem or have any ideas. Fed up with picking my son up ever time it happens. :(

Sounds like the tfi module on the dizzy is crook or quite possibly (don't laugh) loose. This means it won't earth properly. 8-)

As far as I know :? there is actually no way to test them other than throwing a new one on...and they ain't real cheap. Best bet is wreckers and get the whole dizzy.

Just put in a new dizzy, with the age of them, the bushes flog out, then the reluctor starts hitting the sensor.etc.......
Check the coil too, they get cracks where the mount.

I also suggest getting a dizzy. If it still doesn't solve the problem well then you now have a new dizzy and an annoying problem. Have you checked all the wiring on the EA? Due to their age they are known to have corroded wires all over the place...I know I wrecked my EA and hell it had corroded wires and I was suprised it still ran back then.

phong =P~
