hahaha thats funny i hell p****d my self. yeh 180 is fast enough. but when is fast really fast enough. never |

Tailshaft vibration is more to do with rotation speed and resonance than bumps at high speed.
What happens is the tailshaft resonates. This is bad because if you keep inputting the resonant frequency (stay at particular rpm for any length of time) then the vibration amplitude will grow and grow as each input vibration reinforces the last. It will get to the point where there is enormous deflection of the centre of the shaft, to the point where it may cause a bearing to fail or the shaft to bend. Obviously this is bad. By halving the length of the shaft (eg. two piece unit) then you double the resonant frequency, thus eliminating the problem. (I don't see many cars doing 360Km/h, especially not Falcons) |

Live rear axle + 180 and over + bump in road = you're f**k.
Is this for track or suicide purposes? lol. |

No Fun? Acceleration is more fun than top speed IMO.
Where are you doing these speeds??? |

well it hasnt snaped yet lol, i might just stick to 100 or a new shaft and get a set of loops just in case i kill some poor unsuspecting bugger, i have seen the resalts of a tailshaft letting go on a dyno NASTY, it looked like it had been unraveled in a six inch strip and the floorpan, well what floorpan it looked like some one had got under there with a 10 pound hammer

im not sure but being alloy, it's definitely lighter.

i've been led to believe the xr6 tailshaft is balanced, and the standards aren't. obviuosly the standard would have to be balanced, but not to the extent of 200KM\h!!

about the Xr6 ecu's not having a limiter.. umm they are limited.. my EL XR6 Auto ecu was limited.. not sure about my newer Manual ECU though.. im more for the acceleration then speed.. but my car cut out @ 200kph not 180..

The XR tailshaft is steel not alloy, thats why.

XR or police ecu wll do the trick, as for ur tailshaft, be careful, it will hold up for a while. I suggest putin a tailshaft loop on, cheapest answer. That'll stop u goin a*** over tit, if a uni joint give way at speed

in my younger insane days in my eb i drove at 200 for hours and hours was travelling from tomprice to perth. any not a problem but when i started going off the clock i would get this growl type of noise every second or so i guess it was the tail shaft. this was just the gli and i had clocked it at 240 behind my cousins car !! all stock to !?

yer i would beleve that i know the sound too it's like a pulsating vibration, i had a 92 eb falcon gli it was only 4 years old, i used to go past the speedo here and there, i liked the car that much i just brought another one (14 yrs old now) identical right down to the color planning a lot of mods though |

i got a 97 el futura classic. bought it seems stock standard. driving up to queensland. got it up to around 210km. i checked the tail shaft. standard. had a look closer at the motor. cam ben worked. full exhaust worked, ecu changed to wolf 3d. and a few other little bits and pieces. the stock standard tail shafts can do 180km+ but if you do value your life then y bother? if u really do want to go 180km+ upgrade your car enough to be able to handle it without s**t it self and smearing your face all over the tarmack. you wouldn't drive a car with only 2 nuts holding your wheel on would you? then why bother risking a car that u have spent money on to be able to do those speeds and by risking your life. if you must exceed 180km+ then make sure you upgrade the right parts. not just the motor. although my car did have the stock tail shaft and it didnt rip it self to bits. 2 weeks later at mikes dyno. just bout to hit 6250rpm tail shaft split and a 300mm long piece of steel shot straight through the floor pan and right through the roof. just lucky no one was in the way.
