thats the first time i've seen the pics of ur car data_mine. in all the older threads about limiters the pics are no longer avial. it failed in a huge way!
on a side note has any1 seen or heard of this happening with a manual, as i've only read about auto's, and as data_mine said his may have been an auto failure. just interested thats all. Al |

I knew there was a difference somewhere.

Damn! I've been REALLY lucky!! - have been much more tame in my driving in the last several years and now back on the east coast where the need / opportunity for insane speeds is much less than was the case in WA - but I used to regularly have mine up to just shy of the 180 limit (actually it'll let you get to 190 at WOT) - and then when I got the EL XR6 ECU I found it has no limiter (might be a cop one?) - so was OFTEN seeing the high side of 190 on overtakes - and on one occasion actually got to something over 240 (calculated on revs) - had followed a Solara up to 180, then pulled out eased alongside and then planted it and f--ked off down the road. That was all with a factory std 4 spd Auto and driveline - ie. ED Futura. Seeing those pics and reading all this.... makes me realise how totally stupid I was....

I thought it was 180, on Falcons, Futuras, Fairmonts etc. Not sure if XR's had the speed limiter at 180 or not tho, afaik they dont stop at 180.
I know my EF Fairmont has gone past 150 with no problems, havent taken it up all the way to the limiter because of what has been shown here, dont want that happening while driving on the road without a tailshaft loop |

Weird lol, how does that work? If the box is a different length, then surely the D shaft would move shorter/longer accordingly? Or is it where the box/engine is mounted that makes it possible for the shaft to be the same?

A 180 limiter in the std Falcon will actually let you go to 190 with the pedal flat. You REALLY don't want to actually hit the limiter tho - it's really nasty as the engine just cuts out altogether then cuts back in when the speed drops. With the engine making good power (ie. good cam and exhaust etc.) and good suspension it's amazingly easy to do insane speeds - and it's amazing what you get used to - on one trip across to Cairns I had been cruising for a couple of days at generally 150 or so with occasional runs at just under 180 here and there - I was on the section between the 3-ways and Queensland border and came up on a huge Euclid truck being moved from god knows where to god knows where - it may have only been going a few km from one part of a mine site in that local area to another and the highway was the easiest way of getting there. Saw it in the distance and slowed "right down" to what felt like walking speed. This huge truck was travelling very slowly with RH wheels taking up LH lane and rest of it off the side of the road. There were a couple of utes in front and behind and guys walking (that's how slow it was travelling). The RH lane was entirely clear - they were evidently very deliberately keeping that lane completely clear - and it was a beautiful long straight stretch so I could see there was no traffic oncoming - indicated and moved into the other lane well before I got to the truck and stayed well over to the edge of the other side of the road but was most surprised to have several people bellowing and basically shaking their fists at me as I went past and mouthing "SLOW DOWN!!" - I'm thinking "WTF! - I'm going real slow!!" - looked at the speedo and realised I'd blasted past them at about 130....

has anyone experienced tailshaft failiure in an old EA/EB1 falcon? they have no speedlimiter... i hit 220 in my old 88 EA once (on a private road of course), and it wasnt vibrating or carrying on or anything... infact it felt just as solid as if i was doing 60.. if that makes sense.
