now why would you want to remove the speed limiter? if its a standard falcon, the steel tailshaft wont take speeds over 180kmh, and can come loose. youd need to change to an alloy tailshaft.
i just noticed you live in nyngan... im not surprised youd want to remove the limiter with the length of straight road going in and out of town

You can remove the speed limiter using an electronic speed limiter removal module, which you wire into certain pins on the ecu. I think Shiftkits.com.au make them so id contact them about it, not too sure on pricing though.
Other option you could go for is get a police spec ecu, apparently they dont have any limiter and have different shift points, think it stays in 3rd gear until it hits 80km/h or something. If you're gonna remove the speed limiter, id suggest at least a tailshaft loop and an XR6 alloy tailshaft as alfy suggested. The steel tailshafts on the falcons arent known to handle high speeds very well, so just incase it snaps or something and the tail shaft drops, the loop will stop it digging into the ground and flipping the car or coming up straight through the floor |

This happened at 187km/h on a Dyno, do you want this happening on the street?????

Good reply 67RCE.
Here's what my EL did @ 192km/h on the dyno. Add to the fact a standard E series won't go much faster than the limiter anyway. I know how to remove the limiter, but I'm not telling.

I just had my MS tailshaft straightened and rebalanced. When I quizzed the repairers about the benefits of alloy tailshafts, they reckon it would only be for saving weight. Has anyone got data on the torsional strengths of mild steel compared to alloy used in tailshafts?
A Ford spare parts guy told me the Ford Motor Co. once called meeting to advise the reps that alloy tailshafts start to go in a 'S' shape at 180 km/h. Something they were supposed to pass onto customers. After seeing the pics, I'm not keen to pushing the car past the speed limiter!

Another thing I've heard from reputable sources is even if you get the tail shaft strengthened/balanced, or replaced with a two piece. The output shafts on the gearboxes don't get sufficient lubrication at high speeds.
That coupled with the fact the output housing of my gearbox is f**k, and dyno operator in my case (who's had more than a few tail shafts go on him before) said it happened unexpectedly - normally you can feel the vibrations before it lets go. I believe it was the gear box seizing that caused my failure.

good call........ actually better option again would be to not feel the need to go near 180kph full stop

spinner1987 wrote: what if i up graded to a v8 driveshaft and diff wouldent it handel higher speeds The diffs are the same (unless you get one with a different ratio), the tail shafts are different lengths (IIRC) so won't fit. Not that they were any stronger anyway (unless you got one from an EL GT) A diff with a shorter ratio (bigger number) will make your car quicker, but not faster. i.e. accelerate better, but reduce top speed. That's probably what you want. Unless you're going for a world land speed record, in which case a Falcon (any Falcon) is a bad choice - caravan towing speed records excluded. Shift kits, either electronically or mechanically/hydraulically make the gear box shift slightly quicker and much firmer. This has a small improvement to say your 1/4 mile time, but the real benefit is when you're pushing big power, as it helps protect the gearbox (but moves that stress to the tail shaft and diff).
