so i got quoted $520 for a full sports exhaust system for my EF Fairmont at a place called Midland Mufflers. comes with 2 mufflers and a chrome oval tip.
what do you reckon

RUN!!! $520 for a cat back? if it is a full exhaust, RUN! Catback, RUN cause for a catback, too much, for a quality full system, too cheap!

im not exactly 100% sure but i think it was a full redback system since he's a certified redback dealer. i asked for a catback with a single muffler at the rear but they reckon it'd be too loud. tbh my a** it would be that loud since my mate just got his BA done for just over $300. but it is a full 2.5 inch system. ill give him a ring tomorrow to clarify what the actual specs of it are.

found out its a redback system with 2 free flow mufflers i think. and it doesnt come with a high flow cat. just tossing up wether it would sound good enough?

touche although im really mostly just out to get my exhaust all fixed up. i was going to get an catback or sports system put on eventually. but just recently i cracked my stock centre muffler and it dribbles terribly when its running on a warm day like today. should just ask the bloke what else he got. i only asked for a quote on a full system. not my own combo.

I got mine for $440 installed. wich was over priced I think.
its a catback 2.5" 2 mufflers and new hangers and rubbers. Sounds ok with both mufflers. But its not loud at all. Has a slightly louder note just driving and sounds powerful under load. But its not loud. id get a hotdog in the rear instead of the muffler. |

Yeah ive got 1 muffler, it is loud but its not ridiculous, not like a big head turning noise that cries for a defect or anything.

I'd be asking what kind of hi flow cat it is. If its a metal core cat, it might be o-kay, but if its ceramic, dont bother. There are heaps of redback, cat back exhaust systems on ebay for cheap to suit your car. If you are handy with a spanner and prepared to get ya hands dirty, there is a few dollars to save.

Try getting quotes from Pan-O-Market & Express Exhaust in Shepp. I used to go to Pan-O-Market for exhausts when I lived there (many years ago).
Or as mentioned above, buy the parts and fit them yourself (if you're handy with a gas-axe).

i was gonna say bud the last exhaust i got done was just the tailpipe on an 89 pulsar vector ive got stored away. a 2.8inch sports muffler and a 3 inch tip, had a low rumbling idle to it for a 4 banger
 got that done at Midland and they done a pretty top job for $170. even louder now that its burned in. but im not really after a full on catback sound. just more of a deep idle sound and a nice street cruising note. but for 520 it is way overpriced. just mainly out to get it all fixed up though to. i was happy with just the rear muffler removed for the sound it gave. needs a whole new exhaust now that the centres cracked.
