Hey...
I've almost finished changing my head gasket on my EL and i've gotten stuck... the cam sprocket is bout 1mm short of going over the end of the cam... its frustrating coz its so close and its all thats holding me back!!

can anyone help me out please??????????

You could either back off the chain tensioner which would give you some more slack in the chain, or you could lift the back of the cam up so that you can get it on. Unless its slipped off of the teeth on the crank?

nope u have to release the timing chain tensioner

if u dont u will end up doing what i did i snapped the bolt on the idler sprocket and ended up needing a new engine

Side of the block theres a bolt that you turn to put slack into the chain. If you have a gregorys manual it shows you what to do!

don't need to release the tensioner at all,,just loosen the rocker gear bolts till the cam tilts forward.slide the sprocket on and slowly retighten the bolts,,i do it and it works as long as your sensible about it..

lol i just used a screwdriver and levered it up a bit. worked for me on my old falcon and me new one :?

DO NOT leaver the chain onto the cam i tried this and look what happened

u can see where the red circle is there is normally a sprocket that the chain goes around on there, you can see the remaining part of the bolt left in there. that cog that sits there drives the oil pump, when that stopped so did the motor and in the process it seized the crank bearings.

so its a good idea to release the tensioner!

yeah its all done now... relesed the tensioner using a makeshift tool (3mm allen key with a ballpoint pen housing!!) and its all good now... thanks guys

Ouch that's ugly, a good lesson learnt by the sound of it too.
