High guys, A couple of months back i lost control on a corner in the wet and ended up slamming my rear passenger side wheel into the gutter which cracked my rim. I replaced the wheel and i have had this squeak coming from that wheel since. Its not a constant squeak but at a certain point in the wheel rotation. So it would squeak once everytime the wheel rotates fully. Taking the wheel off and spinning the rotor by hand does not produce a squeak sound. I have replaced all my wheels (upgraded them to 17s) and replaced both rear rotors and break pads with brand new ones. This squeaking is driving me insane. Any ideas on what to try next? Cheers
Edit: Also the squeaking stops when the brakes are applied. |

OK...so, it took a hit, then it squeaks (rubs) at one point in the rotation...wheels and rotors are the obvious choice but you've replaced both... by a process of elimination it MUST be something that rotates and became bent thru the hit. so what else is there? Axle, maybe slightly bent? Bearing damage perhaps? The application of the brakes is acting as a stabiliser and is preventing that very slight movement from happening - I'd go with bearing as my guess - but to replace that you have to pull axle anyway, check it for straightness while its out...(PS these are suggestions only...)
Oh, and the `not squeaking when turned by hand - rotor only' merely says its not squeaking when there's no weight on it (or maybe the torque of transmitting drive) - again, to my mind, that suggests bearings or maybe axle...

Thanks Tearlejc, Ill be checking the bearings and axle out today.
@ uniacidz: I didnt get it checked by a mechanic after smashing it as there was no effect on the way the car drove and didnt feel it necessary This was the damage |

You'd feel a bent axel whilst driving. And bearing dammage would become apparent with grinding, droning bearing noises.
Its not the handbrake is it? I be its the handbrake. |

A pedders check will not show a bent axle or bearing damage, they only assess (and poorly) the condition of the suspension and bushes.
Its easy enough to pull an axle and replace the outer bearings. One tip, if you have problems removing the axle after you are SURE you have undone everything required to remove it, get the rear brake disc, turn it inside out put your wheel nuts on the first few threads and use it as a slide hammer. Works every time. Just make sure you have access to a replacement axle if you have indead bent yours.

LOL. $14 pedders check won't get you far. They'll have the car on a hoist for a minute and check you're tyres....
There not gonna rip out the axels to check for dammage. |

In light of my previous suggestion, I am now changing camps and supporting the idea of the handbrake, THEN, bearing/axle.

I don't get you're jokes..
My handbrake cable snapped lastnight right where it conects to the handel. Had been feeling quite rough and squeeling on the brakes a bit. When you check it out inspect you're cable aswell for fraying and wear. Mine must have been stuck on for a while tho cos my rear brakes wore out pretty fast and the cars way faster with the cable snapped haha. |
