ok first i thought it was the power steering belt, so i tightened that but it didnt do jack.
when i first start up the car it screeches, so i give it a few revs and it shuts up. i put the car in drive and it starts all over again, and subsequently gets worse when i take off untill maybe 2500/3000 rpm. im embarrassed to stop my car at the lights cos of the noise anyone know what it is, im thhinking a belt but what belt? thanks Kezz

Could be any of the belts that are slipping.
Does it have aircon?? That would be the forst one to check, it needs to be tighter that a alternator belt or power steering belt. Also check that your belts are not badly worn to the point where they are bottoming in the pulleys, you will never get them to stop making noise if they are that worn

You may have already tried this.
Not sure if ED's the same belt setup, but I had a similar problem with the EA. I had a sqeaking and a rubbing sound which went away with a few revs and turning the stereo up. The bearing on the PS idler pulley ( front of head ) was stuffed. Loosen the PS belt , pop it off the idler pulley and see how smooth the pulley turns. A new bearing is about $5 or a complete bearing / pulley about $30. |

bearing/pulley is that the metal thing that holds all the pulleys?

ok had another look ands when the car fires up it doesnt have much voltage at all. this has something to do with the alternator i suppose? how do i check and make sure the alternator belt is the prob?
thanks

That usualy mean s the alternator belt is slipping. Is it too loose? Another suggestion is to get a can of WD lube or silicon spray and srap each belt till the sound goes away. and if it doesnt spray each bearing like the idlers and p/s pulley bearings. there is away to check your alternators chargeing rate, but i am not entirely sure how to do it. just search yahoo. Hope this helps you a little
