I have a 93 model ed falcon, i want to put a stage 3 cam in it soon, anyone who has done it can you please give me a few tips how much the cam cost and such how long did it take? are there any other mods you had to do to the car after the cam went in?

Not being a d**k or anything, but what exactly is this stage 3 cam?

Could you give us the name of the cam manufacturer who is doing this "stage 3" cam? Or a cam profile number rather than the "stage"? This way people will be able to help you out :wink:

i hoestly thought that they were called stage 3 cams, the bloke i was talking to must be a d**k of a need for speed fan,

i would go for the stage 4 cam if i were you, because its wilder than the stage 3.

Man up you skirt. Stage 6 is where its at - though it can take a while to unlock.

One of our site sponsors, Crescent Motorsport has some very good cams and he does call them Stage 2/2A/3 etc. That is because Joe has done alot of work and doesn't release the specifications. But his work is quality and has excellent results. They are based in western Sydney, and can fit etc.

Wade cams are another site sponsor, and they refer to camshafts by a 'grind number' and detail their specifications. They are based in Melbourne.

These are the two that i'm considering for my AU ute.

Stage numbers are a traditional way of designating cams according to their characteristics. Think of it as the 80's way that has never really gone away.

Stage 1 is generally for towing. Good torque off idle.

Stage 2 is generally a nice street upgrade for a stock motor. Idle quality is almost stock and you generally have a bit of increased poke throughout the rev range (lose a tiny bit down low though)

Stage 3 is generally where you begin to notice the tradeoffs. Idle begins to be a bit lumpy and bumpy (a tune might be able to help sort this out). Down low in the rev range not much happens whilst up top it starts to come on strong. To make the most out of this cam you need a tune and diff gears, and/or stall converter to suit (if your car is auto).

Stage 4, 5,and 6 are each progressively more race oriented than stage 3.


On a side note I notice you are from my home town. You should come along to a local meet some time.

far out!! if the cams were still sold in stages my wade cam would be a stage 9.. :shock: 8-) :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: awsome. :mrgreen:

but be carefull when choosing a cam . as some stage rated cams are not worth the metal there ground on..

I would have used some slightly more colourful language but that's a fair description.

CMS still use stage numbers and so do Crow (to a certain extent). JMM use dev numbers which are the mexican equivalent to a stage number.

so in saying that higher then stage 3 are more race orientated, is it a bad thing to have one in your car as a daily? even though your looking at making a big improvement with your cam. and eventually in the next few years taking it off the road and making it a full time project car?

who's stage 3.
you cant compare one companies stage 3 to someone elses.
good example, crows "stage 3" is fairly beefy, JMMs "dev 3" is a really nice street cam.
heres another one thats irrelevant now, but RPDs cams were all over the shop. Their 'R6' was not as aggressive as their 'R3' :lol:
lesson being, stage numbers mean nothing.

haha ok fair enough, well is there a limit to how intense your cam should be if its your daily? or doesnt it really matter aslong as uve got it tuned and mods to go along with it?

where abouts do you guys meet? i dont have my licence until september but i can find some one to drive me and my old girl in.
